OMG I cannot believe you didn't cancel there and then! I volunteer for a small local childrens' charity where literally every penny DOES count.
The person you spoke to was obviously a paid fundraiser who probably has no interest in the cause they're calling about; you definately should complain.
Please don't allow this idiot to make you feel tight etc - trust me you're doing a brilliant thing by donating (which the majority of the population don't do) but like others have said here; perhaps this is a wake up for you to search out other charities who don't have a budget for fundraising and will appreciate your help.

I suggested they be greatful that they get any money of me and the chaps reply was this "sir your donation is tiny it makes very little difference"
How dare they OP, if I were you I would have cancelled straight away, if your so called "tiny" donation makes no difference whats the point then, I think that you are a very honourable person for making a donation in the first place, I would love to support charities and make donations but I simply cannot afford too( on a monthly basis) and to be honest with you I cannot help the whole world and its problems! It may seem a tad cold but my family comes first! But i would just like to say to all of you who donate to charities on a regular basis, Its a wonderful thing you are doing!LOVE isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live WITHOUT

Im glad others think that it was out of order calling me like they did and making me feel guilty if I did not increase my donation. Im going to have a look through the charity section on this forum to find another good cause to donate to.0

I'm with the others who said they would have cancelled there and then.
If the £8 a month was a tiny amount and wasn't helping, why would they sign you up for £4 a month originally?
I would ring and cancel and tell them exactly why.

I never sign up to chuggers in the street - the fact is they are employed as salesmen and if you sign up it could be over a year before the charity sees any money, because they take a commission first.
I don't give to the NSPCC because I feel they spend too much of their income on 'raising awareness' ie. adverts, rather than actual work. In 2000 they spent more on admin than on projects. We have numerous DD's to small local charities, our church etc. and give to street collections, donate items and so on. On principle, I won't sign up to things in the street.0 -
£8 a month is nearly £100 every year - not insubstantial! Definitely take your donations to someone wh oappreciates it more. Charities shouldn't be paying commission to pushy salesmen.0

Dont bother ringing them to cancel, just cancel it with your bank, if you bank on line its even easier to cancel.
they tried this with me but i said no, sorry.
Later that year they had a big fund rasing do down in London and they said in the letter that lunch would br provided free.
now that was like a red rag to a bull, they were using my money to feed people at a 'do'. If they had not mentioned it I wouldnt have been any the wiser, even if they had charged people a nominal fee for lunch, that also would have been fine but FREE, big no no.
I was livid, and told them so, my next call was to a bank to cancel it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I used to donate to NSPCC and cancelled because they kept hassling me for more - I figured the amount of time and money spent on phone calls and letters more than spent what I was paying and considered it a waste of my money!
I now donate time and money to local charities instead.0 -
NSPCC are awful in my experience. I've lost count of how many times I've said no to their chuggers in the street and been told "well, you clearly don't care about the children"!! I can't afford to donate to charity, not that it's any of their business. Even if I could afford to, I wouldn't give to a charity that guilt trips people.
Cancel the direct debit through your bank right away and give a donation to someone who will be grateful for it. I agree with others posters that the RSPCA are always grateful for any donation they receive, no matter how small. When I do have extra cash I always give it to them.0
