Niddy wasn't upset because of people having a go at him. He left because someone used his username but with different capitals to pm other people vile messages, some sexual. Now, what do you think he should have done there, carried on and have other people harrassed because he wasn't liked?
As for forum vs real life. Some people who come on DFW looking for advice are suicidal. That's not an exaggeration. If they come on and someone who appears to be a respected member starts sending them vile sexual messages, how do you think that'll make them feel? Or worse, react? I think that's what was meant by DFW being RL for some, that it's a lifeline. Debt is still such a taboo subject that people can't talk to those close to them about it, so DFW gives them hope. Again, that's not an exaggeration.
And Niddy didn't post a leaving thread at all. He mentioned on his unenforcibility thread that he was leaving but people could still contact him for advice. That, to me, is being responsible and not leaving people in the lurch.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Actually not true, there are RL experts who post on DFW, for instance there's at least one CAB advisor, there are advisors from CCCS, and other companies. Also a lot of posters have very good knowledge of this site and where to find the relevent articles etc, so the advice is coming from someone who presumably has the correct knowledge/qualifications.
And I'm not sure that you need to be regulated to say 'calm down, there is a solution, here's a list of the experts'.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
