See I'm torn here... I did the "flounce off in a huff" many years ago before becoming a BG and in hindsight I acted like a spoilt child who'd had her toys nicked :) Thankfully Martin and the team didn't hold it against me (if they ever knew about it!) and I'm still here although my posts have grown more infrequent (mainly strict work policies causing that! grrrr) to what they used to be.
As Martin said - the forum has over 500,000 active posters... imagine just 1% having a huff like I did... that's a mere 5000 people they'd have to contact to say "please stay"... and whilst it may be that some believe that one poster was more valuable than the rest - MSE shouldn't be expected to have to take sides and if they do it for one they'd have to do it for all or be accused of favouritism... so they're damned if they do and damned if they don't really...
Banning people btw is not as easy is it may seem - firstly many if not most ISPs now don't use static IP addresses and rarely for home users (cost) so banning an IP address would be futile. Banning email addresses... non starter. You could contact the ISP in question if it was felt that something illigal had actually taken place, like stalking etc - but again it's not a 100% sure route - if it was the life of spammers would be very short lives before their internet access was removed. It's not impossible as the copyright laywers have proved on the subject of illigal file sharing. That process however isn't simple either (and ISPs dig their heels in a lot because the law isn't always clear - infact details are only handed over when the court orders it...)

So have the boards got worse? Well you know... I think this gets suggested about every 3-6 months :) Maybe they are, maybe they aren't - but MSE is what it is and it's free to use :) If a troll bothers you then do the thing that annoys it the most.... ignore it once you've pressed report :) Don't respond to it... that's exactly what it wants.

Tts something that seems to be said on all forums . My view is that its more a case of new posters coming along and the ''established'' posters feel put out . Also its quite normal for posters to get bored after a while and wander off elsewhere . Some people just take stuff far too personally

I think some people need to recognise that niddy was perhaps the best contributor (in terms of giving advice) in DFW. So much so that you won't be able to count the number of threads where someone writes "I think xxxxxx, but wait until niddy comes along" or similar.

He will be a massive loss to this site, even if there are half a million "active" (whatever that means) members.

I for one, will be on his new site looking for advice from now.

How on earth he had so many people sucked in with his porkies is beyond me. Some people are obviously incredibly easily led and will believe anything you tell them. ...

So they should now believe you instead?

The 'I'm leaving' threads make my cringe.

If you're leaving then do one. Don't broadcast your news in the hope your fanclub will beg you to stay. So sad!

Awesome! I can't believe Martin was trying to lay some rules/guidance and then HIS thread descends into a spat!!

PS 16 hour day? I don't think so. Some of your typo's appear to be alcohol related ;)

To be fair I've read Niddys posts and alot are copy and paste jobs? I searched random terms on Google and alot go back to consumer action group and other forums. I think he was more of a copy and paste artist than actual knowledge. But hey if he got famous for that then good on him.

As for the actual bullying. I've learnt from Life/Work let it fly over your head. He internetted too seriously

Rubbish! I've read his thread and he writes letters for people while they are online. It is obvious the guy is clued up and knows his stuff, jealousy will get you nowhere "relay" or is that "limit" or maybe "aron"??

You've learned very little in life, it appears!

That's the whole point, they don't need to because the evidence is all there in his own writing if you look hard enough. It's just that some of us choose not to see what is under our noses. ;)

I have looked back at the forums you have posted in since the beginning of the year. You obviously prefer site feedback and a few of the softer forums. Unfortunately, DFW is real life for many.

With all respect to those who see an internet forum as real life, they really need to get out more. MSE is a great virtual community, and can provide support for real life issues, but nothing on here can be a substitute for real life friends (although real friendships can be developed through the forum).
    Gone ... or have I?
