I've noticed a growing spate of these - or PMs to us - saying "person x is leaving can you speak to them".
I wanted to explain our stance.
1. This is an amazingly valuable forum, that provides a life line for many and is bigger than any individual posters.
2. It is a voluntary forum no one is forced to spend time here.
Like any social network and if you don't like it or want to post -then the respectful thing to do is leave quietly. Most posters have no problems - its only regulars who tend to fall into groups of friends here that do react - this isn't a random comment, we can see if from the stats.
3. Of course there are rude people on here
There are 500,000 posters - some will be pratts and trolls and nasty and disagree, just like the real world.
Then there are people who aren't rude but have a completely different opinion and they can upset too.
We have to learn to accept it - its the nature of the web.
4. As many problem are caused by good posters reacting as by trolls.
Yet more problems are caused by people reacting and flipping back than the original trolls.
People need to understand this is an open forum - we've we've limited tools to deal with them all - but we try - though of course determined people can get round our technology blockers.
What we need is the responsible posters to calm down, press abuse@ report nasty posts and not react.
4. The growing trend of "Im leaving" esque posts are not healthy
It leads to furhter division, gangs and cliques. We can't respond to campaigns to 'keep someone' the site is now far too big for that.
We have to simply ask that our posters respect the rules and each other. And also respect if someone doesn't want to post any more that's their choice too. I would prefer if each person didn't annouce it to the world and if they did others respect it and realising by commenting you perpertuate the problem
Please don't feed the trolls - and if you feel you don't want to post - or need to react. Then its best you leave or take time away from the forum
If you see an abusive post - please report it - don't respond, that Im afraid could lead to your account needing to be closed if you get into a spat
Please help us by heeding this.

Actually nice to see some 'official' support for the 'ignore the idiots instead of feeding them' point of view. Shame there are a few people here who just can't see a bone without worrying it.0
