I claim DLA and on two occasions was able to have the help of Welfare Rights filling in my form - I have now contacted them again, as I have to reapply but found that I do not qualify for help (can only assume this is because of our income as this was the only info they took from me) - I have MH issues and find filling in the form difficult to get the wording right.

My DLA helps to pay for the cost of someone taking my son to and from school so is very important to me.

Whereas I understand cutbacks I cant quite see how our income in anyway means whether I am ill or not

So does anyone know of any Mental Health organisations that can help with DLA forms?

    Many thanks

Will your application be any different from when you applied previously?

My illness has got no better infact worse - from 2 years ago I could not remember what was written - I have no copy of the form as after we had filled it in Welfare Rights took the form and sent it (Im assuming took back to office and copied) - they do not have any records kept for me either

I have asked for copies of my form but they did not keep any of my records (? - should they have done?)

Thanks for answering and your help - I

I did not realise though I was going to be "moved" into the middle of an argument though!

I help people to do both DLA and IB/ESA forms and the answers made on the forms are as truefull as anyone can make them because Im picky who I help, I did help out at a few charities before I became totally dependant on PAs and I now make sure that I only help people who have had there lives ripped apart, thats my speciality accident compo and health related benefits.

B&W has its role and as long as its information only its okay but crib sheets are totally unacceptable to me, I am disabled, I can fill the forms in, some people cant and need help from people like me to understand the questions and formulate there truthfull answers because they have never been asked the questions before and they get perfuddled with there answers.

Becoming suddenly disabled leaves people totally confused, most have never claimed benefits before and these people need help and they wouldnt use B&W, they are in turmoil and seeing someone who was in the same position seems to help, I have a disability center in my village and people come from miles around for help, the center was set up for MH but now helps everyone and has various agencies in weekly.

I help people as does B&Ws, we help people get what they are entitled to but for me there are limits and I would hope B&Ws are the same, no cheating but helping.
  • I'm not sure where this view that they help claimants lie has come from?

My experience of them has been exactly as described by kazzah60 & sunnyone.

When I got help with my forms the advisor actually challenged me on most if not everything I told him. As I've previously stated often a claimant will have a very different slant on how things effect them than is actually true. It's not lying as it unintentional. These people from the fact they spend a lot of time working with the disabled have a very firm grasp on how disability can effect a person, so are in a good position to judge fact from fantasy.

Their honesty has changed my view and made me realise a lot of what I thought was wrong with me was twaddle. This lead to my applications having a much more accurate description of what was actually wrong than I could have.

They don't get paid to defraud the DWP just too help get people the benefits they are entitled to. Since lying for a claimant would more than likely lead to them not being awarded any benefits it's not really in their interests too.

From the various posts on here it sounds like the more you write the better chance you have of getting the benefit. Why should you have to write essays for people to trawl through? Is it in the hope that they will be so bored they will just pass the claim?

I agree that they are not mind readers, but isn't it better to be concise rather than just rabbit on for page after page?

No. Disabilities affect everyone differently. It's also wrong to assume that the person reading your forms will know exactly what your disabilities are.
