No, there is just a lot of cr#p on the market.
I give general recommendations, it's up to you which you think are the most important to follow....if any.silverfoxuk wrote: »- Climasmart/Coolmax/NoSweat cover
Only if you are sensetive to heat. I don't have climate control fabric on my mattress.0 -
I got to say I struck lucky last week in John Lewis. They had a Superior 1 King size divan, 1200 springs, plus memory foam bed on sale. It was slightly marked from being in on shopfloor/ warehouse. I picked it up for £295, normal retail price £895:j I didn't mind as its going in the guest room. so for me brilliant bargain. Why not try the Dreams sale at the moment. Now where can I find a cheap headboard:cool:

Thanks Tim, your comments are appreciated.
Can you comment on this one, inparticular the first layer to go on is a 750gsm Pre-Compressed polyester pad. Its a Kingsize for £235,

Many thanks
This appears to be another entry level pocket sprung mattress. Most of the spec is the minimum you would expect anyway, although he does hype it up a bit.
I really can't understand his reasons for not revealing the manufacturer. Surely it is in a customers interest to know the manufacturer. THe only reason I can think is that you can find the same mattress cheaper elswhere.0 -

Wll done on getting your bargain..........but as for the Dreams sale :rotfl::rotfl:
You probably aren't aware that most (if not all) of the divans and mattresses sold in Dreams have been re-named, and are often made to a lower spec. This is so that they can give their price promise, but then charge what they want. And their RRP's are way over the top. So for these reasons Dreams prices (even during their continuous 'better than half price sales') are way higher than you could find the equivalents elswhere.0 -
Thanks for that bit of information Tim, I was seriously thinking of shopping there before my off-chance walk throught JL's Bed dept. They still have mattresss on sale there if anyone is interested. Their sale ends 27th July. So it may be worth a look, plus free delivery.

JL are actually very over priced, especially compared to on line stores. You were just lucky to get a slight second.0 -
wow this is gettin indepth.
The mattress that I need is kingsize, and yes I know I am dreaming on a £300 budget!
Will keep on looking for that bargain!
Thanks Tim0 -

Kensington Pocket 1000 Kingsize

I'm sure they dont tick all the boxes and I know one says reflex foam, but I really need a new mattress.

He has really let himself down with the description of the L'Amour, by trying to compare reflex foam to memory foam (which are the oposite in construction. Reflex foam mattresses were always regarded as cheap and nasty, hot sweaty mattresses. This hasn't changed at all. So why ruin a pocket sprung mattress by putting a layer of reflex foam on top of the springs. The only reason to do this would be to make a cheap pocket sprung mattress. So as this is more expensive than some of his other pocket sprung mattresses, it begs the question as to how low the quality is on the others.
As for the kensington.....well after the L'Amour above, I have lost all confidence in the quality of any of their low priced pocket sprung mattresses. Especially as memory foam is far more expensive than reflex foam. So what have they done to cut the cost even more??0 -
Tim_Deegan wrote: »This one may not be, but it's difficult to be sure. However as I keep telling you, you need to stay away from the big retailers. The Bed Shed are part of the Steinhoff group, which as you can see here includes the very expensive (and with poor customer service), Bensons and Sleepmasters:
http://www.steinhoffinternational.com/group-operations/by-brand/
They also own Relyon, who actually used to be a good brand. But it appears they no longer are. I actually spoke to someone yesterday who bought two single Relyon mattresses that cost her £800 and lated 7 weeks. Now one faulty spring unit is unfortunate, but to get two is terrible. I'm hearing similar stories all the time:
http://www.steinhoffinternational.com/group-operations/by-brand/
So the chances are that the mattress is a low quality, and low spec mattress made by Relyon. They don't even mention the density or depth of the memory foam.
I have investigated a bit further and this bed (Memory Deluxe 1500 Pocket) is a "Healthopaedic by Highgate" bed "made exclusively for Bed Shed", that's what it says on the label. The Healthopaedic lettering is in the same font as Highgate Beds have it so I am assuming this means the mattress is made by Highgate Beds, although perhaps to a different spec for Bed Shed.

Might email Highgate to ask what the spec is for the 1500 pocket one they make for bed shed.0
