These both look very good for the price. Highgrove are a middle of the quality range independent manufacturer.

I can't find the firmness displayed for the first one.

You need to check to see if they give a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to unpack and sleep on the mattress.

Sorry Tim, I meant to post this (its the same website)

    Whats your thoughts?

Remember Tim can't recommed any bed per se, as he sells beds so it's against forum rules. Tim has some knowledge & experience about bed construction/types/manufacturers so can give factual information, and can give his general opinion on "Don't Buys". But unlike Which?, Tim can't recommend any type of bed or give his "Best Buys".

Unless, that is, your particular query is:

"Tim, if I bought a non-encapsulated pocket sprung mattress, of between 1000-1800 springs, with 50mm or 2"-2 1/2" memory foam with a density of between 50 & 67 kg per m3 on both sides, from an online retailer with a satisfaction guarantee that allowed me to unwrap the mattress to sleep on, would I be doing the right thing?"

    ;)

Ok, Tim, if I bought a Kingsize 1000 pocket sprung mattress which is a full 10″ deep with 1000 pocket springs encased in a soft and pliable polypad which enhances the individual springs with absolutely no roll together. The wadding is a 1000gsm compressed polyester and the side panels are quilted to a 350gsm poly foam sheet for £225, from an online retailer with a satisfaction guarantee that allowed me to unwrap the mattress to sleep on, would I be doing the right thing?

    thanks

This is a bottom end, entry level pocket sprung mattress. It doesn't say, but I presume this is also made by Highgate.

Not if the density of the memory foam was 50kg per m3, as that would be far too low. You should be aiming for 60 to 70kg.

This would be the smaller and less supportive reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs

You shouldn't get roll together with any pocket sprung mattress

Only one layer of compressed polyester isn't that good. This would be a low end mattress. As for the side panels being quilted......who cares?

Love it Tim. "See that mattress you think is good? That's made of poo that is!"

Blimey, you like making things tough don't you?

Given you can't recommend a particular mattress yourself, perhaps MSE mattress lovers can help?

Maybe a MSE 'Find Tim's Favourite Bed' challenge, where contestants need to find any mattresses that you would (if you could) recommend - by gleaning your preferences from thousands of your previous posts - for example with the following spec:
    • Pocket sprung 1000 - 18000 (not encapsulated)
    • Double sided memory foam
    • 50mm or 2-2 1/2 inches in memory foam depth
    • 60 - 70kg m3 memory foam density
    • Climasmart/Coolmax/NoSweat cover
    • Online retailer who allows you to unwrap & return if not happy
Prize to the person who finds the most mattresses, will be a pair of brand new high quality Memory Foam shoe insoles:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MEMORY-FOAM-INSOLES-MOLDS-YOUR-FEET-/390216133271?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Clothing_ShoeCare_Shoe_Care_LE&hash=item5adab1aa97

Fit's any shoe, just cut to size (not sure of the density kgs per m3 yet).

You (Tim) would not be allowed to participate in the challenge, but you could be judge? ;)

Thanks Tim, your comments are appreciated.

Can you comment on this one, inparticular the first layer to go on is a 750gsm Pre-Compressed polyester pad. Its a Kingsize for £235,

    http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk/mattress-sho/king-size-mattresses/sleepwave-pocket-1000-kingsize/

    Full 10″ deep mattress
    Handles and Vents included
    1000 pocket spring system
Double Sided – Twist and Turn to prolong lifespan
Poly Pads as spring insulators – both sides
Pre-compressed polyester as first layer – 750gsm-both sides
Soft Polyester as Comfort Layer- 750gsm -both sides
    Durable damask fabric -

    Many thanks
