If someone upgrade the phone during their contract period, what will happen when you want to bargain for a better contract hen it is up for renewal? By upgrading the phone, you are tied down to another 12 months with O2.

    Please advise.

select customers are only tied down to a 9 month contract not 12 and can get the same upgrade deals as everyone else

I'm an O2 select customer on an 18mth contract, expiring on 13 Sept. I assume then that I can upgrade from 13 June. Anyone know if I can carry over my current retentions tariff or if I upgrade early would they just dump me onto a rubbish standard tariff?? I assume asking for the PAC won't help until Sept? Cheers!!

i work for o2 select so will try to explain how it works!
you must be a customer for over 6 months
your average spend must be £50+ every month (if you are already select and spend less than this you can lose select status)
you must pay by direct debit
you must have no more than 2 missed/late payments in 1 year
Select customer's are still tied in to a 12 month contract not 9 as someone has posted, if you are in a 12 month contract you can upgrade at 9 months, if you are in an 18 month contract you can upgrade at 15 months but you upgrade into another 12/18 month contract
every few months they do a sweep of accounts and promote eligible customers to select and they can remove select status if you no longer meet the criteria

Thank you for that info. Does the new contract start from when someone upgrades, or from when the original contract expires? In other words do you in effect use the new handset for three months on the old contract and then 18 months on the new? Also, can you carry over a retentions tariff when you upgrade or do you have to move onto a standard tariff? Cheers.

Is this per contract or per customer? I have like 4 running contracts totalling over £100 per month. A very loyal customer :D

Oh and btw, I also have internet from o2! Undying loyalty perhaps is a better word!

That's not right, it's a 12 month contract still. In effect you can snowball a longer contract from upgrading 3 months early several times.

If you wanted to phone retentions you'd still have to wait the 12 months.

My old O2 contract was Select, I've changed it now. But when I phoned up to check when I could upgrade they said October which is 3 months early so looks like they've switched my Select onto this account :D x

The new contract starts from the date that you upgrade, if you are on a retentions save tariff and are happy on the tariff then you can keep it when you upgrade

it depends on your contracts, if it is 4 seperate accounts and 2 of the numbers spend more than £50 and 2 spend less then the 2 higher spending accounts coulod be select while the lower spending ones can be a normal consumer customer.
If all 4 numbers combined spend £100 then they may not add you as a Select customer as over 4 numbers it would only average out at £25 per number
