You said you know you are fat...the shop keeper appears to agree with you.

Maybe he does agree but he should not be saying it to a future customer, I will now no longer be a customer and neither will anyone of my family and friends.

But calling someone fat isn't insulting, it's just stating a fact. If he called you an ugly moose or something, then THAT would be insulting and only his opinion!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Well I think it is insulting its something some people are insecure about, what if a shop keeper pick on an insecurity of yours would you not be insulted. Especially when he was just trying not to give me my money back.

No it wouldn't - beauty/ugliness is subjective from person to person. Being fat is measurable to an exact extent.

I'm glad you got your money back after such a short time of wearing them. If the man is that rude to all his customers then he probably won't have a business too long. :D

I wouldn't be having that at all, its not for the shop owner to blame your weight for his shoddy shoes breaking. At the end of the day the shoes makers should take into account that not everybody wearing their shoes is going to be 8st, and I don't think this should be something for the buyer to be worried about. I'm not saying the shoes should be able to withstand an elephant but in a country where the average clothing size is 16, this kind of thing shouldn't really be happening, especially so soon after buying them! Good on you for standing your ground and getting your money back Sheena!

I think he was rude, the shoes should have been fit for purpose, and as such the elastic should not have done that so soon no matter what someones weight is, I have never known a pair of shoes to be sold with a 'weight limit'. I think perhaps there was not enough elastic through the stitching and it came apart, so it was more like a fault?

Im glad that he gave you your money back, if he said you were fat, it was your fault they broke and didnt refund, thet would have been a lot worse!

As an independent store theres not much you can do really, just dont give him your custom again, and perhaps see if the shop appears on any 'review' sites, and express your view on there.

I really dont want him to get away with speaking to people like that.

It's not against any consumer rights to insult your customers, there's nothting that can be done, other than voting with your feet (no pun intended) and making others aware of the bad service you've had.
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear
