Rude Shop Owner

Im going to have a bit of a moan her but im really annoyed,

On Saturday I bought a new pair of shoes from a little independent shop in the city centre, they where very helpfull until I needed to return the goods as they broke.

The shoes where wedge heels with a sling back style but on the sling back there where elastic and i noticed when i put them on the elastic wss not strong enough to lift the heel of the shoe.

While out I had only has the shoes on for about two hours and was sitting down most of this time, the elastic snapped.

I took the shoes back to the shop today and he said I know what has happened, im not picking on you but the shoes where not able to stand you weight because you are so heavy.

I know im fat but to be told by a shop keeper I was so angry I could have punched him.

He said I will get them stitched for you but I said I dont think so give me my money back, so he did but I just think its unbelievable how rude he was.

I was just wondering what could be done about this as I dont think a letter of complaint will get anywhere as like i say they are just a small independent shop.

They are so nice when you are spending money but if you want it back its a different story.

I'm happy that you managed to get your money back, but can't believe he said that to you! The only thing I could think of is to complain to the manager. It doesn't matter what a person looks/sounds like, etc; you should never be rude like that. It's such a shame some people are like that...

More importantly was he correct. If so I can see why they were annoyed. Why should they have to continually refund customers who are too fat for the shoes they buy.

He was the shop owner thats why I think a letter of complaint will not do anything and I really dont want him to get away with speaking to people like that. What happened to the customer is always right, I will defo not be shopping in there anymore.

Judas really if i though it was because of that i would not have taken the shoes back. it was not because of that and they should get better quality stuff if thats the case of should they just ban all fat people in case of returns. I haqve never had a problem with any other shoes I have bought.

Best thing you can do is name-and-shame. Tell us who & where they are, so we all know to avoid this shop with its shoddy merchandise and rude staff. And then tell all of your friends and family, get them to spread the word.

Erm, I may be missing something, but if he said it exactly how you typed it, it's a simple statement of fact. It's not like he said something like "OMG you elephant, if you eased up on the pies the shoes may have lived!!!"

He simply said you were too heavy for the shoes/the shoes weren't able to withstand the weight.

What was he meant to say? "Oh, erm, it appears something happened to the shoes that I cannot possibly recognise, oh how mysterious..."

Perhaps he could have been more tactful, but at least you now know to either avoid that type of shoe, or lose weight so that you can. There's no point !!!!!footing about with things.

I don't like this "name and shame" stuff when it is simply one person's word against the other.

OP - you got your money back. Move on.

I'm intrigued now that there is a supposed weight limit on shoes! When I put on weight my shoe size may go up by half. I still would expect any correct size/fitted shoe to cater for my actual weight. (Exception really only a very strappy sandal that looks ridiculous but then I would think that is not correctly fitted, ie some styles may not suit).
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

I have never in my life had a problem with shoes and my weight, the part of the shoe that broke was the elastic that goes around the back of you heal, when my full weight is on the shoe there is no pressure on this part of the shoe, the only time there is pressure on this part of the shoe is whern i lift my heal and my feet really arnt that heavy.

In that case he should refuse to sell them to fat people. But no, I assume he is happy to take the money in the first place!
