I only quoted the bit that was relevant to my point. I tried both phones out, (and dont get me wrong, they are both GREAT phones) but I felt apart from the screen size and the keyb, the HTC had much more going for it...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

True. Quotes out of context can back up most points. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

It's not out of context at all, the writer of that review made a valid point, which I happened to agree with:
the Samsung DOES have a better screen and keyboard
the HTC IS better in every other way
Simple...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

You can install swype on the Desire anyway. So that really only leaves the better screen.
I've no tried the Galaxy S so can't really comment on it but the Desire is an excellent phone. If they're prepared to let you have a Desire or a Galxy S I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

If only it included web. Thats an extra £5 per month - and a necessity with any android device - or you will be charged a fortune. Also - by the time you add a package or booster for extra minutes - not such a good deal.
I understand T-mobile should be getting these in a week or two - hopefully better plans available. Mobiles.co.uk have an 18 monther - £90 for phone, and £30 p/m. Thats 600 mins, unlimited text/web.
bets I have seen. Still cant order though as T-mobile have not released phone.

Not seen the Galaxy S before but it does look / sound nice....
OP, get either, they both run Android so you're sorted either way.0 -
Nothing wrong with LG.Avoid LG as well. I've got the early Samsung Tocco F480 and it's never missed a beat!
I have the LG Max {Eve} and for an android it is a fab phone...agree the tocco is naff though as all they have had is complaints and bad reviews....I also have the Pop as my 2nd phone but the max is defo better for an android.
It all depeneds on what you want from a phone, you will get lots of replies arguing cases for certain phones ie the IPhone, HTC and blackberries....I have had a blackberry, and i have the android and im wanting the iphone ...Can't think of anything funny to put here!

T-Mobile UK don't know when they'll get this phone. I actually spoke to both T-Mobile and Mobiles.co.uk this morning. Mobiles.co.uk isn't authorised to sell this phone with any T-Mobile tariff right now and, although they are quoting two weeks, they have no real idea of when they will be given the go ahead by T-Mobile to sell them on one of their tariffs. That's why all their T-Mobile tariffs are pre-order for this handset. No other retailer is even taking pre-orders for the SGS on T-Mobile exactly for this reason. I already have a T-Mobile contract with smartphone unlimited internet, so I am happy to pay £325 (after cashback) over 18months for an unbranded and unlocked phone that I can use with my T-Mobile contract. My OH can have the O2 sim, so it won't be wasted.
By the way, the best deal on mobiles.co.uk was £30 a month for 24 months with 900 minutes, unlimited internet and unlimited texts (£49 for the handset). In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

i have 2 desire phones but if i was buying now i would seriously consider the samsung galaxy s based on the specifications.
i said consider and not definitely buy as one needs horses for courses.
if you need proxy based wifi access (university or workplace wifi etc) then forget android phones as most of them cant do it presently. unless the galaxy s has this issue sorted out too! there are some work arounds for android wifi proxy access but am not sure how they work in practise as havent tried them.
from the specs i have read previously and the videos i have seen on various sources online, the galaxy s definitely has better specs than the desire.
swype looks interesting but might not suit everyone. anyway swype can be installed on the desire as well as many versions can be found online and other similar versions are available as well.
screen definitely is better especially the performance in direct sunlight. see youtube videos. graphics processing is better, see electricpig and youtube videos. video game performance will be better on the galaxy s. even games like quake 3 has been played at good frame rates on the galaxy s.
a few people i told to buy the galaxy s didnt want to buy it and instead wanted to buy the desire as they liked what they saw on my desire as the desire is more sleeker and looks more polished. the large screen on the galaxy s makes it less pocketable than the desire in my opinion. the back glossy finish of the galaxy s looks tacky from first impressions and even on the many videos the buttons look a bit iffy and has been commented upon in reviews as well. so based on what i have seen on videos and read about the issue, the desires finish and build quality seems better. but i havent actually handled a galaxy s in person - just a cautionary note.
please note that the desire has some hardware features better than the galaxy s too. the samsung galaxy s does not have a LED flash, which might not be that big a handicap in the big scheme of things. the galaxy s has a front facing camera which is lacking on the desire.
btw i have read reports that by the year end there will be a samsung galaxy s pro which will have a slipout hardware qwerty keyboard. but dont know if this is for usa release only. btw motorola has already announced a 2ghz android phone in the pipeline as well. every few months there will be better phones.
features are great, so long as you use them. best to make a list of what are a persons requirements and then choose a phone, no point paying over the odds for features one might never use like using it like a NAS server etc
have a look at both the desire and the galaxy s and see what suits you best. htc sense adds a lot of features that the galaxy s does not have without the froyo update.
btw someone has mentioned that the galaxy s has 64gb memory. that is wrong as far as i know. it has 16gb internal memory plus an extra possible with upto 32gb via sdhc card so in all can have 48gb and not 64gb as quoted by someone else..... unless there are 2 versions of the galaxy s floating around.
i did consider cancelling one of my contracts and getting the samsung galaxy s on another network but in the end decided to stick with the desire as it is sleek and easily fits my pocket and works fine for my needs.
ps: the samsung galaxy s can be used as a remote control for samsung TVs as an additional feature as far as i am aware.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
