Blank cheque question

I take it your mum might not be sure of the hours the employees are doing? I would tell her to get the hours each week then write the check or as you said, you could do it if you are concerned. After all you dont want her to get stung!0

It make little sense.
She is required to issue them with payslips, on or before pay day, showing gross salary and listing deductions for tax and National Insurance.
Logically the cheques would be filled in at the same time as the payslips are produced.
Or are you going to tell us next that she doesn't provide her employees with payslips?

She does provide pay slips. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

this is a completely stupid arrangement
she has 3 employees and she can't be bothered to write in the amounts on the cheques
however she is quite happy to go to court incase they write a large amount?0 -
there are essentially two risks your mum is presenting herself with:
1) the big sting; employee writes out £40000 and skips the country - yes it's possible the bank might flag the cheque but not as likely as you think, if anyone does this, you can guarantee you will not see them again, nobody would do this and then stick around for the consequences.
2) the small sting: employee chucks on a few more hours worth of wages than they're due, nothing monumental, but every little helps. given your mum's disorganisation, I'd wonder if this is already happening.0 -
The way my mum see's it is that the house would keep that particular employee here and she always says she would phone the police and take them to court. Not sure quite how that would work as she signed the cheque, but isn't it still stealing if they write a lot higher than it should be? Does seem that way to me.
They could be months behind on thier mortgage and about to be repossessed, them having a house doesn't give any guarantees.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I'd like to join other posters here in saying that the OP's mum is, shall we say...
...an amount short of a cheque?

This is a bad practice that if one of the employees does take advantage will leave her with little to no recourse.
Get her to stop this now!0 -
If your mother persists in this ridiculous arrangement, I would query her competence to run her own business.0

I have spoken to her about and showed her this thread and she is taking it more seriously now, never again she has promised me.
TBH I get paid by blank cheque as well(there are only 7 of us at my job) and never thought about it until my mum did the same because I don't trust her employees. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

I am seriously hoping you have a bizarre sense of humour, lol!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
