Blank cheque question

I will like to also add if you hand a signed blank check to someone, there is the possibility they could write in any amount they wish. Provided funds existed in your account to cover that amount, you could end up with an empty bank account0

Absolute folly! How many staff does she have that she cannot write cheques for them. If she refuses to see sebnse can you write the cheques out for her before payday or do BACs transfers directly into their accounts.
If she gets stung she will have no way of recouping the money.0 -
Could she not get an accountant to write the chques out and then she signs them?0

I know she will ask this, so if she rings the police or takes them to court no one will give her the money back?
She only has 3 members of staff, I am not sure why she would not just do it to save hassle but I will certainly offer to do it myself. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -
Why should you get involved because she is too lazy to write out three cheques properly a week? Don't do it for her.
If she can't be bothered to do that, she isn't going to bother taking someone to court.
Leave her to make her own mistakes.
This post will come across a lot harsher than I mean it to, btw.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

OK, so someone steals £10k, your mum sacks them for stealing from her, and takes them to court to recover the money and they have spent it, she probably will get repayed at a rate of £1 per month or such, especially given they are no longer employed. So yes, basically it would be lost.
Can she not pay them by transfer, or could you do it?Best Regards

.
No - she won't get her money back.
As soon as the police identify she's been handing out blank cheques - literally - they will wash their hands of any involvement. Her sole redress will be civil action - and she will fail, owing to the gross negligence she's displaying. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
My understanding is that this low level crime is no longer handled by the police following a law change a couple of years ago. The Police will refer it to the bank. The bank wont compensate her. It will be her fault.
Civil action, hard to prove. As I said previously the cheque is the evidence, and the cheque has been signed. If she did win, as previous poster has said, they might only pay £1 per week.0 -
Just to add - cheques don't necessarily expire after 6 months anymore (depends on the bank), so someone could save one up til after they leave and then write themselves a nice leaving bonus.
Plus if she hands out blank cheques then it's her own fault if someone adds an extra zero, I don't think anyone would help her get the money back, especially if she just "tells them" what amount to write in. Surely if she can be bothered to sign the cheques in the first place she can take the time to write the amount in. Paying them by bank transfer would be a much easier and safer option.0 -
It make little sense.
She is required to issue them with payslips, on or before pay day, showing gross salary and listing deductions for tax and National Insurance.
Logically the cheques would be filled in at the same time as the payslips are produced.
Or are you going to tell us next that she doesn't provide her employees with payslips?
