Blank cheque question

They are usually paid around £200 per week, so if all the sudden they wrote themselves cheques to the value of £10,000 wouldn't the bank notice?
The way my mum see's it is that the house would keep that particular employee here and she always says she would phone the police and take them to court. Not sure quite how that would work as she signed the cheque, but isn't it still stealing if they write a lot higher than it should be? Does seem that way to me.
Maybe the bank would notice, maybe they wouldn't. I thought HSBC would query a £3.5K payment I made by internet banking once and they didn't.
How would your mum prove what she told an employee to write? It may be outside the normal pattern but it could be legitimate.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. She says to me she does, I am sure she would as she keeps good records of what comes in and out.
She does date the cheque and sign it but never fills the amount out.
Never thought about them pre dating the cheques, that is a scary possibility but she still stands that she could phone the police and take them to court in the unlikely event it happened. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

What a remarkably stupid way to run a business.
You need to tell you Mum to stop this right now.0 -

Why would they notice? Yes it is theft, but if someone leaves the country they are going to be difficult to trace, and the funds will be irrecoverable. Hence the whole thing of going abroad.Best Regards

Wouldn't a 10k payment not seem legitimate though?
That is true paid my car off this year, nearly 3k, extremely unusual for me to pay that much out in one go and the bank didn't query it.No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

She says they wouldnt go abroad as they are tied here in some way and as they are here she could get it back. I do think the police and courts may help her get the money back if necessary but I would rather take safe precautions just in case.No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Look I'm going to give you some advice here on behalf of myself and the other posters here. You have asked a question, we have given the answers. We are not here to argue with you, if you want your mother to continue doing this, it is your/her choice, but I'm afraid if it goes wrong she will stand to lose alot and stand liable.Best Regards

Not arguing, sorry if you felt I was, just curious as I do think she will get stung eventually if she carries on. I want to cover every avenue and show her this forum tomorrow. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Perhaps if it did go to court, your mum wouldn't mind being in the local press stating that she provides blank cheques for her employees? What would her suppliers and customers think about that? I somehow don't think it would do her reputation the world of good.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
