Thankyou geordieboy, I rest my case saynayers.....
You can rest your case all you want, but this is the ONLY user it has affected - kind of points to user error (or a problem with a setting on the users account).
If it was a problem with every handset of that model, then it would be well known about, especially on this site.
And £30 to look into it? I don't think so.0 -
I don't think consumer rights actually charge to chase up matters, certainly not the ones run by local and national government. The common sense answer to this is to send shorter texts, isn't it?If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

There is a passing - note, not specific - mention of this in a thread on the Google forum for mobiles. It says that converting long texts to MMS is automatic on the G1 but it doesn't mention how to stop this from happening. If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

This is very common with Android phones - and yes it's a well documented occurance.
I think it's once a single text reaches what would be the equivalent of the size of 3 texts (ie approx 480 characters) it converts the SMS to an MMS.
If the G1's 'stock' messaging tool doesn't have an option to disable this feature, I would advise using a different SMS app. (like Handcent or SMSpopup) as they both have the ability to change this feature, and they are ultimately more customiseable than the 'stock' app.
I use Handcent (both on my HTC Magic and HTC Desire) and have this feature disabled.
To be saying that this is the network ripping you off is really quite naive.0 -
The network is only sending what the phone asks it to send, they are not ripping you off, its not down to them to teach you how to use your phone0

To coin a well worn phrase on the Ebay forum thread
