A good start to the day - I have done my house insurance which is due for renewal next weekend and have managed to get a cheaper policy, saving over £90 PLUS £45 cashback on quidco :D

I had got money put aside for the full amount of the "old" policy quote, so can now move the surplus into my Christmas shopping pot :D

Oooh, good saving and nice cashback :T That's reminded me to cancel my old house ins. policy. I've been searching for the docs (losing things is a bit of a recurring theme for me at the moment :o)

Enjoy the peace and good luck with the viewings :)

DDFW I normally just use the snowball calculator on www.whatsthecost.com or, if you really want to play and have fun with overpayments, go to the mortgage calculator on this site on the right hand side of the page towards the bottom. It is fab!

After some glitches with the mortgage calculator, it kept telling me my current payments weren't enough to clear the mortgage, I love the results. If I carry on overpaying at the rate I am doing, I will save 5 years and nearly £20K in interest. It also means that my lump sum I get with my pension, whenever that is, which was going to pay the mortgage off early, will be MINE!!!

I love the mortgage calculator on here - it is just a shame it doesn't save your calculations and progress like the snowball calculator does - but both of them are great motivators!

I have done a fair bit of pottering - had a soak in the bath, sorted out a couple of drawers and one shelf of a cupboard and chucked a carrier bag size of stuff, and am gearing myself up to clean my fridges as they are fairly empty, before I fill them up with lovely food again.

  • Hypno, inspired by you I have decided to get a cleaner again. My house is getting me down and nothing is giving me the motivation to clean it the way I like it. I keep 'on top' of it and its not a hovel but it needs much more and for me there is no bigger motivater than a stranger coming in every week looking closey at my 'grub' (ie a cleaner) to motivate me into keeping the house as I like it and like others to see it. The only shame I have is that I feel guilty that it takes a cleaner to shame me into getting my act together when I should want to do it for my children and the home they live in rather than for a stranger!? :o

So this weekend I will clear, declutter and clean getting it acceptable enough for a cleaner to begin her weekly job here. Then I will start looking/asking around for a good cleaner. Will probably start with 2 or 3 hours per week.

I also would like to add fresh flowers into my grocery budget each week (makes me feel more homely) they don't have to be expensive just pretty and I will cut back on something else to make the flowers 'neutral' but they are one of my now 'must haves' :)

    Have a good day

The £16 a week I pay my cleaner is quite possibly one of the best value for money things I "buy" now - the difference in my mental wealth is amazing when I am in a clearer, cleaner space. I used to beat myself up over the fact that I should be able to do it myself, but now I just accept that I can't and that I need help to do it.

And yes, fresh flowers are moving on up my list to become a "must have" too - I have had flowers a couple of times recently as thank you gifts and it has been lovely to have them. When the current lot are finished, I will certainly be replacing them - we have an excellent flower stall on our local market so it will become part of my Friday routine to go and visit :D

Slowly but surely, I am peeling back the layers, and discovering what I like, and what I need. It is very liberating.

And I have just realised that one month today I will be 40  Where has the time gone!

My alarm went off at 5.30, P.....I did plan on just doing nothing, but then something called "energy" (yes, I had to look up the definition too) seemed to take hold, and MADE me do these things :rotfl:

Have a good weekend yourself :D
