I am a scrap man, yes i mainly ask for scrap metal it has more value, but i'd like to know where the 300 a day comes from, if your lucky and honest you make about 40 a day if that, i truly believe we provide a service for the community, i live in the west midlands and there are thefts from church roofs, graveyards, even the metro system has seen thefts for copper cable. Scrap is a cutthroat trade only the dodgy get 300 a day. the current price is 110 a ton for light iron, when we get a washing machine we strip it of its parts to get best value for our time. I dont use a horn or scrap iron tape. Just an eagle eye and polite can i have that scrap please.
  • Last year, when we had an old bathroom suite removed, we put it out to the side ready to ring the council the next day. Within a few hours, there was a knock on the door asking if they could have the steel bath. My OH said ok, if you get rid of the whole lot. They didn't want the sink and loo (not worth anything to them) but OH was most insistent, so they took the lot. Dread to think where they dumped it :-(
I'd have told them to get lost. At least the council would have disposed of it properly.
From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!

Then you are the type I like.

As I said I don't object to them/you making a living, what I do object to is hearing the tannoy and airhorns 2 or 3 times a day and him sitting at the end of the street reeling off his never ending list of wants through a megaphone.

    Flippin nuisance!!

My husband has a van in the garden, day in day out they knock asking if they can tow it away for us...not much wrong with it though and it will be fixed, so I say no, besides if it was going to be scrapped husband would take it himself and weigh it in for the cash.

Then a week ago, I walked out of the house to do the school run and found a young man in my garden clutching 2 alloy wheels which had been taken off the car the day before and left at the side of the house. I challenged him and he insisted that my husband had told him to come and get them. I knew this wasn't the case, but he was so insistant that I actaully phoned my husband to check!!!

I actaully found it quite scarey  that someone had been rumaging at the side of my house when I was in.....was also worried that he now knew I going to be out!! So went back in and then made a mad dash for the school once I was sure they had gone!!
    :hello:
