I just usually use a good quality black permanent marker pen and slip the printed invoice in with the item.

but the point is i don't have a printed invoice to put into the slip. x

Oops sorry, didn't read properly! Can't help on the non printer side of things.
BTW I buy plain bags, would have thought these were cheaper than those ones with the invoice slip bit.....?

    hi again,

Just a quick question all the mailer bags have white slots on to stick the printout of the order. As I don't have a printer will it look bad with an empty white pouch and then the buyer's address written in black marker pen?

    thanks - a ebay 'virgin'

I don't use those so I can't visualise how it will look. The mailers i use are plain so I just write directly onto the envelope.

I buy plain bags too and just write the address on in permanent marker. I am a personal seller and used to include a little printed note saying thank you for your purchase etc but Ive ran out of these and am not selling in great quantities at the minute so just include a little handwritten note on cute paper. When I recieve items off a personal seller I dont expect the same p+p standards as a business seller (who will generally do things in greater quantities, bulk etc) and would rather then keep the p+p cost down than spend time and money on printing invoices, buying 'posh' mailer bags etc. As long as the item is as described and packaged adequately Im happy.

Thanks to everyone who has posted.

I'm sorry to keep asking and checking with so many points but I would hate to scored badly because I amde some sily mistakes.

I got my brown wrapping paper from Wilko today, and have loads of tissue paper at home and will but the plain mailing bags now off ebay...how does this sond to dispatch the items..

Boxed items will just be wrapped in brown wrapping paper and buyer's address written on it with black marker pen.

Clothes - wrapped in tissue paper, then popped in the platic mailing bags with seller's address written in black marker pen.

I have a couple of more questions if you lovely people don't mind....

    1) What happens if I send something breakable and the seller claims it has arrived broken? Where do I stand, can I make a claim form the Royal Mail and as I suspect does it take ages?

    2) I have a toy remote car - it works but has loads and loads of parts that are in the box but not bagged - do I have to list every screw and nail before I send it. I'm a little worried if I sell it and then if it is returned how do I then sell it on and make sure that all parts are returned correctly.

    3) With clothes - do you all just wash and iron them before you send? What happens if I send it perfect and it comes back - well grubby - what do I do apart from rewash it?

    4) Do buyers put a time limit for returns - what is considered as reasonable and can you stipulate no returns or is this not allowed?

    THANK YOU!!!

    Dee

Packaging ideas- the town where I live has several arty/kitchen/gift shops and a friend who sells regularly on e-bay asks them if they have any unwanted bubblewrap etc which they would dump at commercial waste rate- they are happy to part with it. Shoe boxes make great containers. She asks friends to save carrier bags, especially the ones with broken handles, the charity bags that come through the door every week, in fact any clean bags and they are used to pack round items. As a buyer I am not fussed by fancy paper etc as long as the goods are as described and are well packed (even in a bin bag!) that's what is important

Regarding postage my friend works it out beforehand using the online calculator, if she has charged too much she refunds that amount, however small. That ensures good feedback.

As a buyer I have been annoyed when the postage charged turns out to be nothing like the cost. For example I bought 2 small items at auction & asked the seller if they would combine the postage-no. The items arrived, in the same envelope (insufficient packaging) with insufficient postage and no return address! It was amazing that the PO had not charged £1 + missing postage because it was clearly overweight. In that instance the seller actually paid 25% of the postage charged! needless to say there was some negative feedback!
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

    Hi everyone,

I am nearly ready to start selling all my old bits and bobs on Ebay and I just wondered what to wrap the stuff in when I post out to buyers.

I'm reluctant to shell out on a load of fancy paper but likewise feel I can't really use last years Xmas paper....:D

Could any experienced sellers please chime in with their thoughts and if you don't send it wrapped nicely does this have an impact on your ratings......

    Thanks very much

    Dee

If you live near a shop that sells sofas or furniture, pay them a visit and ask if you can have some bubble wrap.

Most in not all furniture is imported, and comes wrapped in giant bubble bags/foam bubble bags - all of which end up in a skip, it's all nice and clean and free though, and reuse is better than seeing it dumped.

Glass or china items are excluded from compensation unless you use Special Delivery. Even then they will turn the claim down if they consider the packaging inadequate.

If you send fragile things you are really self insuring and need to pack with a lot of bubble wrap in a strong box. If you would not be happy to drop it onto a concrete floor from chest height, it needs more packaging.

Make sure your postage cost is calculated on the packed weight when you list items.

I sell a lot of china and glass and use a double wrap system and have had loads of good feedback on the excellence of packaging, although sometimes the package ends up many times larger than the original size.

First wrap in bubble wrap then wrap that package tightly in cardboard, if you roll the cardboard around the item and fix it then cut the ends down to the top of the bubbles and seal it up you should end up with a solid package. Now wrap that package up in more bubble wrap or use packing chips into a larger box, I include a packing slip, if you have a printer you can print these out from your PayPal payment page although I now have software that does that for me along with printing out an address label (not sure if I'm allowed to advertise the company here, PM me if you want details).

I try to use all new bubble wrap and recycle cardboard and boxes. Some mail order companies now print their details on the outsides of their boxes but it's a fairly simple matter to take the boxes apart and turn them inside out.

Poundland is your friend - Jiffy bags a plenty!

Just make sure if you are using Paypal postage that you make sure it prints the amount paid, saves trouble at the Post Office and also saves people bad feedbacking or leaving less stars for postage costs. I swear a lot of people have no clue how much p&p actually is these days.
