A & L migration to Santander

DDs and SOs at A & L all cancelled, all set up on first direct - Check
Current Account emptied - Check
Letter to close A & L - Check
I'm prepared for them failing to close the accounts as requested and having the audacity to charge an underfunding fee.....
Had a phone call from Scamtander this morning about my conversation with the call centre yesterday, would I be willing to complete a survey, to be honest, I don't feel inclined to help Scamtander, but I did agree, anyway, typical really, we got cut off!0 -
I just looked at my September statement for my A&L Premier Direct account and found I had a £5 charge for underfunding. Requirements are to fund at £500 per month and I had done this. Called Customer Service and evidently this was a mistake caused by the transition to Santander and they promised to refund. Don't suppose they would have refunded unless I noticed it. I wonder how many have suffered the same and not noticed.
This happened to loads of people, I got £5 out of them for the phone call.0 -
Hey all!
I've just experienced my first bad dealing with Santander!!
I got paid as normal on the 15th October (yesterday), I have two direct debits due to come out on the 16th which is today - now I appreciate it's a Saturday, and they may have been requested yesterday - but with my wages going in there was plenty to cover it.
I called to query why they haven't come out, and the person said they were both failed, possibly because I may have got paid by Faster Payments (which my company don't do!) and the money hadn't cleared.. and that I'll possibly get a charge, maybe two, she was just speculating about probable causes and didn't have an actual reason why the direct debits have failed, and didn't know if i was paid by FP or BACS!
Is this normally the case, or is it just Santander being utter rubbish. Is it normally the case for other banks that if you have a direct debit coming out the day you get paid, when you previously didn't have enough to cover it, that it doesn't get paid?
I'm now going to be hit with a £50 fine no doubt - which seems as though its their mistake!
Can anyone shed some light on whether its my fault/my employers or theirs? Thanks.0 -
It should come out on Monday if its due today, thats the way it always was for me if I had dd's coming out on a weekend day, and I used to have an A&L accountDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

...whereas I, too, had an A & L account and my DDs that fell on the weekend sometimes came out on the Friday, sometimes on the Monday- and I could see no logic behind this.
However, I am now with the Co-op and everything is rosy!!

I had an email today.
It was a marketing from Santander.
Thety wanted to know my opinion on whataccount names would be most appealing.
As I don't wish to lose my account on this forum, let's just say that I had a lot of fun with it0 -
I've just had one of the usual phishing emails purporting to be from Alliance & Leicester:
"Dear Customer,
You have exceeded the maximum number of logon attempts and your account has been locked.
Please use the Next below to reinstate your access."
But an examination of the link's URL shows that it's nothing to do with A&L/Santander.
No surprise there then.0 -
I used to receive my A and L monthly statements within the first few days of the month, then it crept to about the 8th or 9th of the month.
I received my latest statement for the period ending 4th October YESTERDAY,18th!! Is this the Spanish Mañana way?? I can't be on my own and it's so annoying.
So pleased I'm in the process of changing to Smile and up to now all is going well with the transfer, delighted with the extra benefit 'Smilemore' bundle free for a year. I did, however copy all the D.D. and S.O. info from our A and L account on the net, printed this out and posted it to Smile and I'm sure this helped. Maybe others could try this if they are experiencing problems with change over to whichever new bank account they choose.0 -
Hi,
recently an entry has appeared on my credit file with experian that shows as Santander Current Account - file updated to the period 1/08/2010.
However i have not got an account nor have i applied, i used to have an account with A&L which was closed in 2008.
On both entries on my credit report they show the same account opened date. I'm assuming this must have happened as part of the migration from A&L to Santander? is it anything to worry about? does this mean santander have re opened my closed account with a&l?. I dont really fancy ringing them as from reading alot of comments on her it looks like their customer service is pants!
any advise would be appreiciated
Cheers
Gaz
Same situation here. Account closed in Jan 2009 and yet I have entries for Santander and Alliance & Leicester - same opening date etc. I'm going to pop into a branch at some stage and see if the account is actually active. I'm assuming during the migration process, it's somehow reported to the credit reference agencies that the account is open. Whether it is or not should make no difference though, Santander group has no right to list two entries for the same account.
For the people that had an active A&L current account which has now migrated, do you have two entries on your credit files (one for A&L and one for Santander)?0 -
Hi Allan
I had a letter apologising for the 8 week delay dealing with my complaint and enclosing detail how to go to the FSA. A few days later another letter where they said they accept no responsibility for holding £2000 of my money locked away for several weeks whilst I worried about it being returned and how long that might take!
BUT, after saying they deny any responsibility, they are sending me a cheque for £50.
So: Do let us know if you get your cheque? I shall allow them 4 weeks then issue the court proceedings I told them I would at the start of the summer when all this began. I understand the magistrates court believes £25 per hour to be a satisfactory sum for compensating people for their time. If I have to write again that cost will increase further!
Paul
Well, I did get a cheque. It was for £50. I banked it last week and thought for fellow mse members I should update you. The cheque came about 2 to 3 weeks at most after my letter saying they would send me it as a gesture of goodwill.
Quite nice to get it, despite the feeling of frustration at the time. The £50 covered about 2 of the hours I wasted of my life trying to get my money back. If they had not done it I would have gone to small claims for it and very likely won it plus costs, plus more than £50 for the extra time going to court for it.
This should be a lesson to them for the awful service. It made a decision to move to another account with another bank quite easy to opt for this week after banking the cheque. I won't be running back to them in my lifetime.0
