    Dear Vodkachick68,

I'm so sorry to read your post. I can say that I know exactly how you feel because my 16 year old cat was PTS yesterday afternoon under almost the same circumstances as your dear boy. She was given steriods about four weeks ago, they perked her up for a few days, but she went down hill from there and in the end I had to let her go.

I know how hard it is, but you did the right thing for your puss.

    Take care,

    May

    May,
I am really sorry for your loss,it's never a good thing having to do that, thankfully Orbit went before I had to do it.I'd already made up my mind to ease his pain but he passed to the bridge the morning of the appointment.
What did help immensly was to go & get Daisy the same day,I still find myself calling Daisy 'Orbit',Puss Cat or 'You Furry Little Monster' at times.
  • This thread is so so sad. Big hugs to the two of you that have done the most loving thing they can do for their pet. You have loved them and taken care of them, and now it is their time you have looked after them to the end, and that they will never forget in their new life.

Rainbow Bridge and the first poem have had me in tears and I am at work! So I have been unable to read the others, I am dreading the day my cats have to move on from this world.

Deeply sorry for you both at this time of loss; yet also filled with admiration for your bravery and your unselfishness. The hardest thing we pet lovers ever have to do is make that terrible, heartbreaking decision that releases them from a care-worn, frail body that no longer serves them.... Yet the decision, bittersweet and painful though it feels, is the final part of the unconditional love you've surrounded your adored cat with all of his life.... Bless you both.

Something that's helped me after the loss of a beloved cat or a close friend, is to choose a rose to represent them in my garden. There are some wonderfully well named roses or perhaps you might pick a particular shade that reminds you of your pet's colouring. Even though, sadly, not all my five cats ashes are buried here in this garden, they all have their own special rose. I have Lionheart, Remember Me, Magenta, Our George and The Prince. Oh and I also have 'Loving Memory' for all of them...

I send you cyber hugs of sympathy and hope and pray you feel some sense of peace and acceptance in your heart very soon.

My first beloved dog has the rose "peace " planted over her ,a beautiful deep yellow,as she was a golden labrador cross..

My second dog has a rambling rose (i forget the variety) because she was a real rambler and a tearaway. It took us months to get her out of the habit of running off after we got her as a rescue dog!

I am angry today because i have heard of an older couple who cannot bear to do this kindest thing for their elderly dog. They carry her everywhere, even outside to do it's business,as she can hardly stand. They can't bear to part with her apparently.Selfish selfish people.Yet i bet they would say they love their dog.Loving your pet is putting IT first not you.

My heart goes out to all of have been through this it is the most difficult desicion to have to make and I have made in the past with my precious Misty. We had been through so much together, but I knew it was time. I know now I did the right thing but I had the guilt that I had done it and not tried any more.

I sometimes see him out of the corner of my eye, although now after almost seven years what gets me now is I am forgetting how he meowed.... I think of him everyday, light a candle for him on every anniversary. I have four more cats, a dog and two horses and I dread the days I may have to make that choice again.....

Love and purrs to all feline lovers.....

I am also really sorry to hear of your loss as well *hugs* It does make me feel slightly better that i'm not the only one going through this. I feel like i have lost a very dear friend, and its weird that when i came home from work today i almost thought i heard him meow lol. My other cat knows that something isn't right as he has now taken to sleeping in the place where his mat and bowls used to be. He is also wondering around sniffing for his scent. I know it will get easier as time goes on,and maybe we may think about getting another one in the future, but nothing will replace Charlie :-) Hope you are ok and i know what you are going through.

    Take care xx

Thank you all for your kind words and wishes. A special thank you to you vodkachick68, as I didn't want you feel that I had hijacked your thread.

I've had a cry this morning but I know that I did the right thing and we are going to a local cat rescue later today and hopefully we'll come back with a new puss. Having another cat to love is the only thing that's going to make me feel better. The house is too empty without one.

    Best wishes to you all,

    May

I would also like to thank everyone who has replied to this thread for your kind words and sympathies. Its nice to know there are still people out there who care :-)) Aytoun i really hope you find another cat to take away a bit of your pain. And Mayflower10cat i thought your idea of planting roses is lovely. We shall be getting his ashes back on Monday so i may well bury them and plant named rose there. Once again thanks so much all of you :)

    I'm so sorry for what you're going through, I had to have one of my 19 year old moggies PTS last week because of heart failure. It's never easy but you've just got to try to remember all the good times {hugs}
I also think it's a wonderful idea to plant something for them and a nice reminder

    Dalsicle,
I'm so sorry for your loss.Little words can express the feeling of loosing a beloved pet.
    May,
I think you're doing the right thing getting another puss from a rescue center. You can take comfort in puss's passing has given an unlucky till now cat the chance of a life that your puss had.One of the reasons I went & got Daisy was, like you,the house felt empty almost like the life in the house had died along with Orbit.
Another cat will never replace puss fully but it will help you remember the good times.
