Thought some one would pick up on that, as usually you chose to pick half of what I said

I dont resent some teachers but why partners too why should they go free?

I only stated in my last post one reason why costs are higher ie cost of teachers/partners

Are the partners being used to bump up the ratio of adults to children, thus avoiding having to use paid teachers/childminders/supply staff?

I had a trip to Berlin and Warsaw for my GCSE's, It cost £375 and it was well worth it:) We stayed in a shady hostel above a sex shop, next to a sex cinema, and a few doors down from an erotica museum :o

Was very amusing at that age.

And your parents thought it was for History GCSE - not Biology!

  • That's quite a shocking price, especially considering for £200 more I am heading for New York for 7/8 days with school...I would question whether they have tried to find the cheapest option.

My daughter went on all the school trips in primary school which cost quite alot, but as soon as she started secondary school she would not be able to go. As we go on a family holiday abroad once a year and at easter to Cornwall,i cannot afford her to go on a school trips costing £600:eek: She is ok about this and has never once moaned or given me a hard time. I will do exactly the same for my son who is in year 5.

It's more likely that a teacher's partner would go because they can't get enough school staff to volunteer. As such, they would go free just as a teacher would. If they were not going as designated responsible member of staff, they would have to pay. I have been on a few trips as a teacher myself, though only UK, and depending on which children are going, it can be great or a nightmare.

I still think £600 is too much. It's also a bit concerning that these semi-compulsary trips are starting in primary school now.

Blimey I was lucky to go to Margate when I was at school and that wasn't that long ago, actually there never were any school trips :(
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T

Why don't you get your DD to organise an outing with a few other kids who aren't going on the trip - such as a visit to Eden Camp, Malton or to Beamish museum, followed by an overnight stay at a Travelodge or something like that? A great experience, educational, fun and cheaper!

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

What annoys me about this is it for the GCSE History students so those that dont go are to my mind disadvantaged.Yes I know they can make up for it by studying themselves but I personally think education should treat all equally.Another thing that annoys me is the fact that there are only so many places so first come first served, so even if everyone could afford it not everyone would be able to go anyway.

We got one of those letters as well about certain pupils doing so well that they were being rewarded with a trip to Thorpe Park(she has gone there today)We have had to pay £30.00 for this.

She is only 13 and wants to get a job but the only job she could get is a paper round and that is not practical where we live. I have thought about paying her to do some work around the house etc. but my real problem is the amount of money - rightly or wrongly I feel we are being ripped off!!
