They run numerous overseas trips at my children's school. About 3 a year. I told both my sons they could go on one each and that is what they have done. They both came home with letters for America next year. £1000 pound each. I would love for them to go but its just too much money. They both really wanted to go but its out of the question. They both sulked for a couple of hours, but they re over it now x

I never went on a school trip abroad and neither has any of my siblings. Not because of the price but my mother was to over-protective.

It didn't wreck our futures or ruin our lives. I doubt it will your daughters.

I had a trip to Berlin and Warsaw for my GCSE's, It cost £375 and it was well worth it:) We stayed in a shady hostel above a sex shop, next to a sex cinema, and a few doors down from an erotica museum :o

Was very amusing at that age.

Cant believe how expensive it is now as we did all the good stuff and then flew to Warsaw and visited Berkenau. (this was the only part that seemed educational)
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

My son has gone to school camp half an hour away from home this week, sleeping there for 2 nights, and it's cost us £85. He went on Wednesday lunchtime and will be back Friday just after lunch.
Two years ago, whilst in his last year at junior school, he went to camp for 5 days and that cost £80.
My other son went to a free museum on a junior school trip yesterday, in a town 15 miles away - it cost £11.
  • We've just forked out for a 2 night field trip to Devon. Cost £200. Amount of notice given for the payment deadlines - 5 days for a deposit of £110, 14 days to pay the remainder.
    Some schools have no idea......:(

    give up work and:

    a. save up your benefits (apparently people on benefits can holiday in the US and Cuba for 3 weeks at a time).

    b. let the other parents pay for it or school fund it (at least that's what happens when waynetta's mum says she can't afford to pay).

The person you are referring to happens to be classed as disabled , so a pretty poor trade off ?

A few years ago a friends daughter and a 6th form trip to New Zealand , coincidently a place where their teacher had a lot of friends , and the teachers husband went too ( not sure if he had to pay ) In the evenings they had to self cater and when they went to buy food the teacher added a bottle of wine that the kids had to include in their budget ( that was most nights )

Yes, surely the teachers should *pay* to look after a bunch of screaming brats for a week in a foreign country...:wall:
