trying not to be disheartened, went back to try and collect the rest of my brochures and only managed to get another 7 with no orders. Have prepped these with sticker asking for house number if do not want to receive avon, and have posted them back out.
Now I will just have to wait until monday and hope for a few more orders. Still to ask family and friends but dont want them to feel pressured to buy anything just for the sake of it so am just going to casually mention that I am now doing avon if they ever want anything.

It's difficult when you first start because you have the added problem of trying to find your customers. Once you've done a couple of campaigns it becomes easier because you've identified who actually wants a book.

Seem to be in a minority but when I first started I 'knocked and asked' i.e. didn't just drop books. My initial territory was 78 houses and only managed to find a dozen or so that actually wanted a book (and they didn't all place an order). Just made sense to me to at least find the houses that were willing to look at a book rather than just drop it off and risk losing it. OK took some time but with only 20 books it would have taken me 4+ drops to get round my initial territory and the way I did it I managed to identify 18 potential customers in one afternoon (just carried on door-knocking.... was adamant to get most of my 20 books out! :))

Don't get disheartened..... when you find your 'Avon-loving' customers it will give you a real boost! :T

Talking of which I mentioned to my own SL recently how I thought it would be better if all reps/agents actually reported back to Avon the addresses that they serviced i.e. to make it easier for a new rep being given that territory to identify which houses actually wanted a book. I was told - rightly or wrongly - that when a rep finishes they are supposed to pass back that information to their SL. Shame it doesn't actually happen. Know for a fact that a rep, who recently gave up, passed her customers onto a friend. Natural enough..... but a newbie I signed up was then given that road as her territory and, of course, has found that all the Avon customers are already being serviced... :(

Lita, I claim tax credits. What I did when I first started, I based my income on my "best case scenario", that I would earn £50 each campaign after books, etc. I gave this quote to tax credits and they just said in April when I do my actual self employment assessment to give them the real figure, meanwhile they would use the £50 a month as my income.

Yep, this is correct, we are supposed to give a list of our customer base when we decide to leave Avon.

    Well done Libby!:j

I have also found that some of my customers are still be served by the previous rep:(

Aureol - If I tell them £50, that's every 3 weeks isn't it? Also will they give a rebate next year if you earn less than that?

Thanks guys :j I'm so pleased! My SL and my ASM came round yesterday to give me a gift and congratulate me on my excellent start, my SL had told my ASM about my colour-coded cards (adapted from those you sent me, MarsdenCuckoo :T) and he wanted to see them all, said he'd seen things like that from a longstanding rep, but never from a new one. I want to make Presidents Club and go to the partay!!

Lita, they don't give you a rebate. What they do is base your tax credits on your earnings last year, and then they record your earnings this year. Next April when you call them and tell,or before end of July, what your actual earnings were, they will look at how much you were paid this year. If you were overpaid, they will recover the money they overpaid you, and if they underpaid you tax credits, they will pay you what they owe. They then base 2011's Tax Credits on your earnings in 2010 and what you think you are going to earn in 2011.

Oh and if there are people already buying from other Reps, go find some more customers elsewhere. Advertise in local shops, ie Tescos, Sainsburys, especially if it is free, and your local newsagent. If you go to a baby group or any social activity, ie Slimming class, ask the leader if you can bring in Avon books to show the others. Ask at your local hairdresser's, beauty shops, baby clinic, if any of the staff see a book, would they like to?

Talk to everyone you meet, carry an avon book with you at all times, and ask them if they buy avon, have they seen a recent Avon book? Tell them it costs nothing to look. And remind them of the 90 day guarantee from Avon. I have 3 customers query products they have bought, if they don't suit/like, etc, can they return and what happens. They were pleasantly surprised that Avon allows you to do this.

ooh... sounds good... care to share... I think dizzybella would appreciate having a look at your idea, and some of the other ladies, especially newbies.
