sh1305: Our university usually has a hardship fund that helps out graduates who are having trouble paying their bills after leaving uni but they have had to scrap it this year because of the credit crunch. Ironically the time it is most needed! Clearing? I thought that was where people who had not got into their uni could re-apply? He is trying to find paid work at the moment as he has already completed his degree.

What percentage of your net wage do you spend on rent as that's usually the most major expense?0

Jowo: over half. Net wage is just over 900, rent is 475.0

Why do you need more than £425 per month? About what a couple are entitled to in benefits. If you are not happy with that standard of living get rid of the dead beat or get him to shape up.0

sh1305: LHA rate is £103 for a 2 bed
KimYeovil: I am interested to know where you got the figure of £425 a month from.. after rent of £475, electricity of £60, loan repayments totalling £200, council tax of £100, bus pass of £60 and 2 mobile phone contracts totalling £40 I get a figure of minus £35...0 -
you are asking for help with the government to pay the bills after getting into debt with loans???0

When I worked through the Entitled To calculator on the Entitled To website and entered a gross salary of 13k (which gives a £900 per month net salary approximately), your ages and the LHA rate, an estimated council tax of £100 per month, it indicated that your household was due CT rebate of £4.09 and Local Housing Allowance of £40.46 per week.
Obviously, garbage in means garbage out so do work through it yourself as obviously you know the exact information to get a more accurate estimate out of it.
You live in a 2 bedroom property but will only be entitled to a 1 bedroom LHA rate I believe - which rate are you citing?
EDIT - The above figures from Entitled To will be wrong because the OP has incorrectly cited the 2 bedroom LHA rate when there is only entitlement to the 1 bedroom rate...0 -
