  • Hiya, I really adore camping. I have an ambition to own a camper van but I used to have one of these Bell Tents http://www.belltent.co.uk/ and sleeping under proper canvas is the most blissful thing. Unfortunately the ex got custody of it, but I will get a new one.

Eeeek - after the 'big move' early this year, the Aussie and I have just decided to embark on another one - this time I am finally packing in my full time job at christmas, moving in to his old house and taking a 'year off', going to do up his house and doing the uni courses I so desperately want to do to finish of my Geosciences (and Law) degree. I'm excited and terrified all at the same time - I'm very independent but I am excited to have the opportunity and change my life (again). Eeeek again!

    Me today:
Green t shirt (that says 'New Wave Activist' :) ) - Surfers Against Sewage
Green tweed pencil skirt (part of a suit) - British Heart Foundation

Oh Rainy, how exciting for you!

I love bell tents! They cost a bomb though, don't they?

Argh/// on the phone all day today, trying to get some of our invoices settled :( it's so frustrating! !

have updated theblog with today's playsuit thing tho - comments are welcome :D

ETA - Rainy, I do like canvas tents, but years of guide camping has shown that the girls just can't handle them, so sadly we#'ve moved on from the traditional ones :S
    Cath%20Kidson%20tent.jpg and that's my one lol :)

Aye, probably why the ex insisted on keeping it ;)

Seriously, they are more expensive than 'normal' tents, but you get what you pay for and it depends when and where you use it. Mine was the only tent that survived a torrential week in the Lakes unblemished If you look after them they last for ever and it's hard going back unbreathable polyester after having one..

Thanks for the support. Mildly terrified because it'll be the first time I'm not responsible for paying the rent since I was 17, but excited at the same time. But he needs to move back there and it's daft us living in two different places, so I should embrace the opportunity

I can understand that. I left home in 1985 and although I started going out with Jon in 92 didn't bother selling my house and moving in with him until 2001. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner really, more money and less DiY!

The whole thought of living with someone scares me silly! I would keep renting my flat lol. Just as a backup!

I'd love a bell tent, or any canvas tent really, it's warmer at night somehow.
Rainy, that's fab, go for it!
PF your tent is really pretty - is it easy enough to get in and out of? I like that simple design and need a smaller tent for single nights and festivals (when I get to one!). I have a 3-man that someone had abandoned when I went to V - we stayed til the end to see what people left, I don't think anyone bought a can of cider or lager for months and there were dozens of tents and even a small caravan! - it's ok but somehow impossible to get out easily.

Hah, we got most of the tents the guides use now from V leftovers last yr. They donated what was left to Shropshire guiding last yr, and we got quite a few - had to get pegs and a replacement pole for one or two, but they are good. And were free :D

Mine's pretty easy to get in and out of. It's just a regular 2man dome, and it easily sleeps 2!
Or more often, just me and a lot of clothes ;)

I've rented for the last 14 years, it's the DIY I'm looking forward to :) No more magnolia! Bliss! Luckily my new 'landlord' is giving me free-reign on the interiors...

PF - your Cath Kitson tent is a beauty. I can't believe guides don't have canvas tents anymore though. Please tell me they still have to make washboards and washing up bowl stands from bamboo canes ?That is my most prominent guide camping memory.

Forgot to add - also got a faux-fur gillet and a gold lurex cardigan from Oxfam at lunchtime, both cheap but nicer than they sound, honest.

Wow, I'm impressed that V donated the tents, I always assumed they were just binned.
