There is no change to the Banking fees with the A&L Santander migration, only the descriptions/names of some of the fees. There was a mailing explaining this back in April.

No reply for me either yet (welcome to Santander I guess!), but it sounds like the charges and the overdraft fees system is staying the same and as vroom3 says, it;s just the descriptions that have changed.

Sounds like it was a mistake if the extra charges have been removed. Maybe it was just a glitch with their system migration.

Banking charges cannot change without prior notification to customers via a mailing and there is also a notice period they must adhere to also. In your case I suspect that it was a charge glitch that they have now removed!
  • I would be very interested to hear the outcome of this too - I currently have the A&L overdraft at 0% as I switched my account from Natwest.

A&L say it will be 0% for a year, then will revert to the 50p/day up to £5/month charge from then onwards.

But will all this change upon the switch to Santander? Would be very good to know!
  • I swapped to A&L in March this year and haven't been very happy so far.
Last paper statement I got date 29th June says I've been charged £5 for an underfunding fee. The statement ran from 29th May to 29th June. I get my wages (more than £500) the last working day of the month which was 28th May and 30th June. This just seems like an enormous money making racket for them, I pay in more than the required amount every calander month. I'm loath to ring the "helpline" as the last time I did this to sort out a duplicate direct debit I got a shock when I got my phone bill and noticed they were charging national rate for calls. I've sent 3 secure emails from my account on 8th July, 13th July and this morning and got bott all response. I think their customer service is pants and I feel I'm now going to have to ring them and get the run around on their excessively complicated menu helpline. This must be happening to loads of people and I'm a civil servant and we all get paid on the same date. I know it's not much money but it stinks. Thanks

I'm using my overdraft of my A+L Premier Current Account frequently.
So far the maximum I paid for this facility is £5 a month.

Now, this seems to be changing with this month. I've just logged in into my account and the "daily arranged overdraft fee" is displayed as £14.50. I'm really annoyed with Santander about this. I've read the "Important changes to your Savings Accounts and Current Accounts" very thoroughly and couldn't find any changes about overdraft fees.

Looking at the A+L website, it is now saying for the Premier Current Account
0% EAR typical overdraft rate for your first 4 months when you switch your account to us using our free Account Transfer Service. The rate then changes to 12.9% EAR typical (variable).
With 12.9% EAR I'm not going to use my A+L overdraft anymore.

I've remained within my agreed overdraft and paid in £1900 so shouldn't be charged for under funding or being over drawn

Seems very strange. The only possible reason I can think of is a timing problem. The minimum funding has to be paid in during each month between statement dates. Have you paid in at least the minimum on the latest month's statement ?

  • I agree that so far the service from them has been terrible! Except the service in the branch near Fenchurch Street, which has been excellent - though for a lot of things they have to direct me to the telephone service which is terrible.

My account was switched to Santander just over a week ago, at which point my password was reset without telling me so I couldn't access my online account until I'd called up and got them to send me a new one.

So far there's no sign of any changes to the conditions on my overdraft.
