Alliance & Leicester - New Charges

Anyone know anything about new charges with A&L.
I've been with them for over a year so am charged the capped amount of £5 a month for my overdraft. I've just logged in and there are charges also showing for:
Under Funding Fee - £5
Daily Arranged Overdraft Fee - £1
Looks like I'll be changing my account soon!

Do they actually want to KEEP any of their customers?!"Kindness is the golden chain by which society is bound together." -Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Just wondering mainly why the new charges and if they've been notifying them.
I must admit I have been receiving info advising about the accounts moving to Santander but didn't read anything about charges.
Think First Direct is probably my next best bet - any other cheap overdrafts around?0 -
I have the Premier Direct Current Account and my overdraft charges for the period 22 May to 20 June are still showing up as the £5 max monthly charge.
I've had general correspondance from A&L about the switchover to Santander, but I've searched high and low and I've not had any notification from them about changes to any charges on my account.
My online account information still says I have the Premier Direct Current Account, and I've had this for 3 years now.
I guess it's business as usual until I'm told otherwise.0 -
I'm exactly the same - everything I received said I needed to do nothing yet on logging on today there are extra charges showing.
Guess I'll need to get in touch with them.
Out of interest, anyone know what the under funding fee is about - is there a set amount should be paid in now Santander are running the show?0 -
With the Premier account you always had to pay in at least £500 a month - if you don't, you are charged the underfunding fee - that's not a new charge."Kindness is the golden chain by which society is bound together." -Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Thanks - I pay in more than three times that. Just wondered why all of a sudden that's coming up as a charge for me0

I have just checked mine and there are no additional charges (so far) but I don't have the 'view your charges for this month' button either - it appears to have disappeared! If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I just checked back on some of the leaflets they sent me and the only thing I can find is the followiing2. Overdraft Fees
Between 1 June and 1 September 2010 we are making
some changes to the way we describe fees for overdrafts
and the way in which we notify you if you incur these fees.
From 1 June 2010 you will start to see the following
overdraft terms being used:“Daily Arranged Overdraft Fee” – a Daily Arranged
Overdraft Fee will be payable when you have a sufficient
Arranged Overdraft to cover the payments being made
from your account during the course of the day and
your account is in an Arranged Overdraft. This fee was previously referred to as the “Overdraft Usage Fee”.
So as far as I can see they've only changed the description. I've checked through the Santander list of fees from 1st May 2010 and there's no reference to a change of daily fees for existing A&L customers.
In fact, there's a section on the website for exisiting A&L customers and I've found the T&Cs for the Prem Direct account and the charges for the 'Overdraft Usage Fee' as it was, remain the same as far as I can see.0 -
Thanks.
I'll need to get in touch with them. I've remained within my agreed overdraft and paid in £1900 so shouldn't be charged for under funding or being over drawn0 -

I've just sent them a secure message asking if the charges are changing, so I'll see what they say.
Let us know how you get on though - will be interesting to see if they've decided to change the charging system without specifically telling people.
I still can't find any reference to a change in overdraft usage charges for exisiting customers.0
