Hmm I have to take DH with me shopping as since I had my back surgery I can't carry the shopping:eek:

On the whole he isn't too bad and will stick to the shopping list..almost..except when we go to Lidle and he tossed 12 bags of their own brand wine gums into the trolly   . Or if we go to Mr A's he will drop into Lidle on the way home some night for them:eek:   I think he is addicted.

The other thing I need to fix is if I am runnaging through the whoopsies he skulks away as he won't be seen dead at a reduced section. Tsk, sadly this applies to clothes shopping too, he loaths and detests Primark

My OH was very well meaning, came home with pizza. I noticed the sticker '3 for £5' and asked where the 3rd was... turned out he hadn't read it right just been seduced by the red sticker.
Luckily asda were very understanding and let us buy the third the next day (for about 20p!)

To give you all some hope, i think they can be trained, but it takes time!

My now DH always bought himself M&S lunch at work (about £8 a day as was salad, tray of prepared fruit and a smoothie), he also used to get a coffee and croissant on the way to work most days - another £3-4 a day!! I was so shocked when I met him, but it was his money, not mine. He would also only really buy branded groceries etc.

Over time he has come round though, i've not really pushed it. He worked out that simply by buying a large carton os smoothie and bag of apples or bananas each week and cutting out the breakfast on the way to work he could save almost £100 a month! Then over time he realised he could take lunch in to work so he now takes either pasta or salad or cous cous...

....only problem is guess who usually ends up making his lunches now...

He has also come round to meals bulked out with veg...i did it for a while in secret before suggesting it a good idea, then he said 'ooh, i'm not sure, i doubt i'd like it'. I then pointed out i'd been doing it for months already so he didn't really have an answer!!

:rotfl: :rotfl: I like that, might try it that way round with my OH too!!:j

my OH drives me round the twist. every tiny thing i cut back on, he 'ups' in another place!

he doesn't seem to think our situation's quite as dire as it really is.. he's of the opinion that things will sort themselves out, and a couple of pounds here and there aren't going to make a difference overall.

bulking out foods with veg, oats, or lentils isn't necessary as he 'doesn't really fancy it' (insert whiney child-like voice)... when i point out it's actually necessity, not just me being tight, that's the reason for me doing all these things, he ends up in a huff and we fall out! :(

he literally brings me down every step of the way! i need an OS man!!! (any offers? ;):o lol)

I made a bolognese the other day, and bunged in it grated onion, carrot and peppers, plus a load of split red lentils - then the mince and tomatoes...

Of course, OH came in whilst I was dealing with all the 'bulking' stuff.... "Ew, you're putting all that in the bolognese? UUrrr, that's horrible, why can't we eat normal food..." etc, etc

Of course, once I had worked my magic with it, he was very impressed with it; and said it was really nice.

Did I remind him that he said it was going to be horrible?? You bet I did!! :D

My DH is not OS at all and I doubt he ever will. He lost both parents at young age, so his motto is that you can't take it with you. It's a constant battle but I've now just got into the habit of moving money from the joint account into one that pays the bills and he's quite happy with that. I always tell him what I'm doing and what needs paying, but I'm the one in charge of the finances and paying the bills. If I left it to him, I dread to think what kind of mess we'd get into.

Funny though, he still moans about the toilet roll stash under the stairs....
