Hi im a 41 yr old guy with a wife and child and im just about to start on the FND on Friday after being out of work for the last 12mnths

I havent got a problem working i want to work but i have a problem for working for £1.60 a hour why not pay me the minimum wage? For a company that have no intentions of giving u a job after there free labour

What will happen if i refuse to do the Work Placement

Isnt it against the law to force someone to work for less than the minimal wage?

Thxs

Ps please dont slate me because im unemployed

Plenty people work for nothing for work experience, it will look better on your cv to hopefully get you a better chance of getting a job.
I think this will probably be part of the jobseekers contract you signed up to in return for your money every week.

If you refuse a placement your claim will be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks.

Do you receive HB/ LHA, CTB etc? Does your wife work?
    Gone ... or have I?

I doubt the rules apply in this case. And you may get a job out of it, so isn't it worth it? It will also look better to any prospective employer that you have been working more recently than a year ago.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

I would imagine that your benefits income means that you are working for considerably more than £1.60 per hour!

I would agree with you. Surely it is better to be active than mooching around in between meals?

Hey, I am over 60 and on the assessment rate of ESA because I failed the medical. I am not required to attend the 'Pathway to Work' programme on the grounds of age but am doing so voluntarily because I'm too young to give up on work!!

I also do voluntary work - 25 hours pw to keep my mind and body active.
  • Suck it up, as a previous poster has said if you don't go then you can get a sanction of up to 26 weeks. A lot of people have found these work trials helpful and some have got full time jobs out of them.

Can you add the amount you get from the placement and the amount of benefits you receive; then break it down into a per hour rate - it would help us better advise you.

They get nothing but their bus fares paid for in arrears.

It use to be an extra £10 a week in previous schemes, but the days of even a meagre carrot of encouragement have well and truly been replaced by the stick of benefit loss.

Actually OP try to get them to provide a travel pass for the week in advance. I've heard they can do this but are very reluctant due to the amount of people who get it then do one.
