  • Please help! i have got a blob of candle wax on my beloved blue cotton hand wash only skirt! how do i get it out???

I know i have to do something with hot water to melt the wax first, but i'm not sure what or how. And will i be left with a greasy stain?

put it under kitchen roll and iron with a warm iron, it'll gradually melt and the kitchen roll will soak it up, keep going over it till its all gone.
  • According to Kim and Aggie (!) if there is any greasy residue after the ironing this should come out with a grease-stain remover.

I know that's probably not a very old style product but as it's one of your favourite skirts we won't tell anyone.....

The How to Clean Anything website says:

Here is a qeustion from Brian:

I got candle wax on one of my favorite shirt. It's 100% cotton. How I can I get the wax out?

    Technique:

Chip off and remove as much as possible first. Then take a terry towel and lay it down on the wax, and under the wax stain ( the wax should be between two cleaning towels) then take an iron (on medium heat) and place it on the towel.
The wax will wick up into the towel. Be sure to inspect the towel frequently, and be sure to keep moving to a fresh part of the towel until wax is gone. Pre-treat the stain with a laundry pre-treat and launder as normal. Do not dry shirt in the dryer until you are sure that the stain is removed, heat sets stains. Dyes in candles can cause permanent stains, once wax is removed if a stain remains treat as a dye stain.

Yes, I've seen that one before... what they don't tell us is how to get the wax off the towel afterwards!

    Hi-
i posted asking for advice on this a few months ago! I cant remember who gave me the advice BUT IT WORKS!!! i was SO grateful, it was on my favourite skirt!!

Put iron on to a warm setting (not hot) then put brown paper (what u use for wrapping up post etc) and iron gently over, keep going over until no wax or grease comes off onto the paper.

    Its a miracle!!!!

Stick it in the freezer for five mins give it a sharp slap on a table and most of the wax should shatter and come off then follow steps with brown paper, this should ensure you don't melt the surplus wax further into the garment.
