candlegrease and candle wax

  • Over the last 6 years we've had a few candle overflows and wax ended up on the carpet. Now the older stains were removed by letting it dry, removing big bits and getting the rest with a hoover (making sure to comb it up before each attempt). In some cases this took a few years to remove all trace of the wax.

We might (I hope!) be moving out in 3 months or so & have a couple of wax marks still left. White wax, red carpet (of course!). Does anyone know the proper way to get wax out of the carpet? I really don't want to hire a carpet shampooer or something and have it not work.

Thanks (and after the wax I have to deal with the red wine stain on the grey 2nd bedroom carpet - they never got invited to stay again)
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

I'm sure I read somewhere to put kitchen roll over the wax and the use an iron to melt it, allowing the kitchen roll to soak it in. Like it says on most packets though - "try it on an inconspicuous area first"!

I have always used brown paper and an iron, but I imagine kitchen roll would work just as well. I must remember that as I always have kitchen roll but have to make a special trip to the Post Office for the brown paper.

I had a hunt and found some older threads on candlewax, but they aren't specifically about spills on carpet so you might need to be careful.

Scrape off as much as you can so that there is really none there, pour a little boiling water on what wax is left over and mop up, dabbing not rubbing with a towel or similar as you go. You are lucky that it is white wax on a red carpet, it is the coloured wax that leaves a stain.

I got wax off clothing before by putting newspaper over where the wax is then rub over with a warm iron, it worked on denim and a fleecy top so should work on a carpet i guess. Be careful not to have the iron too hot incase it scortches the carpet, build up the heat slowly and only press gently with the iron to start with.
    Hope this works

    Hi there
I had the same problem, and used WD40 - spray it on and it dissolves the wax and you can then just wipe it up with a cloth. I used it on synthetic carpet, pale blue -don't know what it would do to a white carpet though (if you have white).
(WD40 also works for crayon on 'things' too)

    Cheers

If you don't want to use an iron on your carpet a hot water bottle will also melt the wax. Good luck.
I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:
  • Knocked a candle over yesterday and wax spilled all over a new pair of jeans -very mad a myself for being clumsy
Any suggestions how to get rid of it? havent tried anything yet, just keep looking at it and thinking that I will never be able to wear them again.

If there is a stain after doing this, dab it with methylated spirit!!!
