Also, you can put ice into a bag and put that's er the wax to make it really hard and brittle, then it's easier to pick off with your nails or maybe a short bladed knife, like a kitchen knife.

Freeze & pick what you can first, then iron the ret.

NOT greaseproof - use brown paper (the sort you use for wrapping parcels), dull side down OR a few thicknesses of kitchen towel (2 or 3) - the idea is to melt the wax so that the paper absorbs it. Or newspaper would work I expect.

And work from the outside in, so that it doesn't spread.

I agree, don't use greaseproof, it wont absorb, hence the title.

Both methods should work, either melt it or virtually freeze it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

That's really odd as grease proof has worked for me? But now you mention it it doesn't sound right does it. Odd.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • I've used grease-proof paper when I had a similar accident and it worked fine.

well, there's greaseproof paper which absorbs grease and some which doesn't.

as an aside I use baking parchment instead of greaseproof ;)

I would do the freezing thing first, then try with the iron, as someone suggested above. It looks as though the paper type doesn't matter much - but take care with newspaper if the carpet is pale coloured, in case of ink stains , and keep the heat setting really low.

you may want to put a layer of tin foil between the iron and whatever paper you are using to stop getting any wax on the iron.
