hi all not sure if this has already been mentined but longleat do a big discount too

£14.25 passport ticket each for disabled and carer (bascially half price each) saved us lots of money in the past and makes it a much cheaper attraction wookey hole cost us a fortune and didnt do disabled rate unless we didnt want to go in the cave (what would be the point of that lol)

Concessionary rates apply to visitors with disabilities or special needs and one registered accompanying carer.

    Prices are per person

    Adult
    (15-59yrs) Child
    (3-14yrs) Senior
    (60yrs+) Day Ticket £13.00 £9.25 £10.50 Passport Ticket £14.25 £10.50 £11.50 Annual Pass £32.50 £23.13 £26.25 House & Grounds Ticket £6.45 £3.25 £4.45 Combo Ticket
    (Longleat + Cheddar Caves) £17.25 3-4yrs: £9.25
    5-14yrs: £11.95 £15.00

I also got my partner (carer) in for free at plymouth aquarium.
its always worth asking when you go somewhere if they say no there is nothing lost :)xxx

I've noticed a lot of the summer music festivals are offering free carers tickets for disabled people.

I live in Loughborough (leicestershire). I rang the bus companies and they sent me through a free travel card called the charnwood Gold card. Obviously you have to send proof of disability. It did not cost me anything and allows me to travel around the midlands for free on buses, trains and coaches. It have been invaluable!

The ceacinema card is very good and worth the one off payment.

I have never had trouble with getting a discount or free entry for my carer to come with me to the theatre. I would suggest speaking directly to the box office as the tickets are often cheaper, they will give you a better discount and arrange for you to get a seat that suits to your particular needs. This is the same for the midlands as it is in the west end. It really is worth asking, as one show i saw in the west end they had arranged for two hospital beds to be taken into the theatre, with the people on them and all the bags and drips that they needed.

Most places will give you discount on enterance for either the disabled person or carer, you just have to ask. I have found that by asking i always seem to get a discount, this is because even if they do not do discounts they tend to feel guilty about discriminating that they give you one anyway.
  • Bumping this up as I have mentioned this thread on the benefits board for someone.

My son (6) has ADHD and is awaiting assessment for Aspergers. We have season tickets to Paultons Park (Home of Peppa Pig World!!!) in Hampshire and they have lovely Nurses (not just first aiders) who issue exit pass wristbands to people who have problems queueing. My son has recently been awarded LRM/MRC DLA, but he used "Queue Assist " before he received DLA. I felt quite guilty at first, but now I think ( as the eyes of Mrs-"we've been-queueing-for-an-hour" bore holes in my back) "you'll get the last laugh when your children are asleep before 11 o'clock". We didn't even know about the scheme until the nurses had met my son more than once for other reasons (!!!) and suggested it.
Marwell Zoo also admit a carer free (and offer a reduction) for anyone with a disability.

Have you looked at Carers Allowance?
    Carer's Allowance

Carer's Allowance is a benefit to help people who look after someone who is disabled. You don't have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for. Find out who can get Carer's Allowance and how to claim.
    Can I get Carer's Allowance?

You may be able to get Carer's Allowance if you:
    are aged 16 or over
spend at least 35 hours a week caring for a person

They should be getting one of the following benefits:
    Attendance Allowance
Disability Living Allowance (at the middle or highest rate for personal care)
Constant Attendance Allowance at or above the normal maximum rate with an Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
Constant Attendance Allowance at the basic (full day) rate with a War Disablement Pension

However, you can't get Carer's Allowance if:
you're in full-time education with 21 hours or more a week of supervised study - or doing a course described as full-time by the college or establishment providing it
you earn more than £100 a week after certain deductions (like Income Tax) have been made

If your hubby is self-employed and has low earnings have a look at Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit.

    Hope this helps.

    Toll Bridges

All major toll bridges offer a disability discount- but all differ. Its worth checking in advance.

For excample, the Severn Bridge only requires the blue badge to be shown at the time of crossing and the Humber requires pre registration.

2011 November, when we crossed the severn bridge, the man looked at our tax disc as well as our Blue Badge. So I assume from that it is just for people who have top disability (who get their car tax paid).
