OK, Try following the instructions in your Sky+HD user guide, page 69, it may be a little clearer.
You are using the Sky +HD remote, standard Sky remotes wont work.

Yes i am using Sky+ remote

OK try 0646 , I think thats the one I used, cant find an exact match for the set unfortunately.

There are loads of codes.

Yep that code has worked many thanks for that so will that sort out the problems ive got with tv?

Make sure you have pressed the remote's Sky button before trying out the menus.

Nope still looking the same so i dont really know whats going on with it,i will try it with my virgin box and see what that looks like.

I just dont want to have to go back to argos with it for the 3rd time in a month they may ban me!!!

Sky+HD offers an on screen display - known as an Electronic Programme Guide (aka EPG) - that's all whizzy compared to that provided on their standard definition boxes since the late 90s. The trouble is the one that was over a decade old works better than the new one. They've replaced something that was intuitive, quick and easy to use with something that is, quite frankly, a bit of a kludge.

I'd try switching the Sky HD box to outputting 1080i to see if that makes any difference.

You say that when your press select to see the now and next banner the picture disappears and is replaced by noise. What do you do to restore the picture?
Do you get the same problem if you connect the box using scart?
Can you confirm your EPG is version sky+ 9.10.13a, go to settings, details.
