Hi Kazz, I've often found with cooking that it doesn't turn out right each time, even if it's a tried and tested recipe. That often happens to my scotch pancakes.

What I've done last year with blackberries is to make fruit puffs.

Put them with sugar into squares of rolled out puff pastry, cover with another layer of dough, firm edges, cut across the tops and sprinkle brown sugar over them.

This time I plan to make a fruit pudding -

100 g self raising flour, pinch of salt
add 50 g butter/marg - rub in until like breadcrumbs.
Stir in 100 g sugar and 1lb fruit
beat in 150 ml (quarter pint) milk = thick batter.
    Put in baking dish.
    Cook 200C - Gas 6 for 30-40 mins

99p seems a good price lunar, they can be very pricey.

Today I picked a load of blackberries on the way home from the shops.

You have given me lots of new ideas, thanks to Anglea who pointed me in this direction from the link on another thread. I am hoping the weather stays nice all week so that I can take the kids blackberrying at the weekend. I usually freeze them and use with the rhubarb and apples from the garden, but you have inspired me to try jams this year too. I may pay my gran a visit as she used to make all her own and I am sure she will have some recipes for me!

Just popping in to say that I made bread & butter pickle (pickled cucumbers really) and they were lurvly :) Don't think they'll be allowed to leave the house though as DH scoffed half a jar last night!

Went plum picking again and filled a carrier bag! Can't wait to make some jam and some plum brandy :) Also found a good spot for balckberry picking and shall go tonight.

Nice to 'meet' you foxy :) Apparently you can still make jam from frozen fruit

    Hope everyone is well
