Hi all,
hi again foxy and mum2one,
Some funny comments today.
The mind boggles at 'bread and butter pickles' - what is that Sml?
Am I the first casualty on this thread - I accidentally ate some nettle when I was blackberrying  My poor tongue was hurting for hours afterwards0 -
We have loads of blackberries right in our garden any ideas? Thinking jam but would like some other ideas please ladies and gents!Silence is golden...unless you have a toddler. In that case silence is very, very suspicious!0

Oh your poor tounge Angela! I hope its feeling better now. I was picking thorns out of my fingers for hours yesterday after wrestling with a tayberry bush.
Bread & Butter pickle is cucumbers, onions and peppers salted overnight and rinsed (it gets rid of moisture to keep them crunchy) You then boil cider vinegar, turmic, sugar, mustard and anythign else your fancy for 10mins and add the cumcumbers for 3mins. Then into sterilised jars.I think you can use courgette too if you wish.
I haven't managed to go blackberrying yet, hopefully i will soon and then it'll be blackberry whisky on the go!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Sml,
I love the sounds of that pickling, I'm going to tell mum because she always pickles cucumbers that she grows, I might have a go too although I don't have the large jars. Do you chop your cucumbers or have them whole?
Thorns - are your hands ok? Some of the blackberry branches this year were massive with the biggest thorns I'd ever seen.0 -
Mine were big cucumbers so I sliced them thinly. DH was impressed as I manged to get them fairly even. So far I've used old jam jars, sauce jars and any other jars that people give me
I've even got work donating them now!
Fingers and thumbs are now now, thank you for askingI had a soak in the bath and squeeeezed....yuk

Can I join in too!:j
Have today made Raspberry Gin and Blackberry Vodka, all to go into the little wine bottles advised further up the thread (thanks for that tip!) as well as left overs to go back into the bottles that the booze came out of - for keeping rather than for presents though!
Also blackberry and apple jam - four pots but will make another batch up soon.
Finally am in the middle of making sweetcorn and chilli relish - smells delish! All to be potted up for Chrismas.
My five year old has been helping and told my mum down the phone that she didn't like Vodka and wasn't going to try it again :embarasse Oops
