Elderberries - thinking of elderberry vodka?
I had a brainwave - asked my neighbour if I can have some of her babys food jars, thought they'd be great for the cherries idea and also going to try some flavoured coffee - one of the ladies put it on our xmas thread 09 - kept it for reference.
COFFEE MOCHA
Fill tub/jar with Equal parts of instant Coffee and Unsweetend Cocoa Powder so half and half
CAFE VIENNA
Fill Jar/ Tub with Coffee and add a pinch of Cinnamon
SWISS MOCHA
The same as Coffee Mocha, but maybe use a differnt coffee or Cocoa so the flavor is different
CAFE VIENNA MIX
4 spoons Coffee
1 spoon Cocoa
Pinch of Cinamon
Keep doing this until Jar/ tub is full
CAFE Au Lait
Equal Parts Coffee & non dairy creamer so half and half
xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Hi, how is everyone?
I've been ill and haven't made anything for a while, completely missed out on the local apples as they've all been had
I've been promised some quinces but I'm not sure what to do with them - any ideas?
Likewise with elderberries!
How about quince cheese http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quince_cheese?:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
Hi all
Mum2One, it's strange about the flavoured coffees, I bought a small jar from the health shop a few years ago in caramel flavour, the aroma when you open it was divine, yet I couldn't get on with it at all, only just finished it.
What is non-diary creamer - I've got powdered milk, will this do?0 -

Hi
I love the smell coffee, when were down in Devon we got a little market and this stall has about 30 flavours coffee, the brandy coffee -my fav.
Don't think the powdered milk would do it, (excuse my technical!!descriptions) - but think its by Carnation - seeing a red / white jar /tin - whitener - remember a couple of years ago they brought out their own versions of latte, - that would be what you need. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Thanks for the idea of elderberry vodka mum2one
Made some last night. Also added elderberries to a crumble and made turnovers with them - they didn't last long
I love the coffee ideas, shall be using them
Quince cheese sounds interesting got-it, I'll have a go and let you know what it's like.
I have thorns all up my arms from sloe picking - ow - but it'll be worth it. And I got some rosehips to have a go at syrup.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Hello, Just been reading through this thread and there are some great ideas.
I have decided this year to also make hampers full of homemade preserves and goodies.
I would like to recommend the river cottage preserves book, its fantastic, the lady who writes it is fatastic, she covers everything from sterelising jars to how much each recepie makes to how long it lasts for.
As so many people posted wanted recipes for flavoured vodka, I thought i would share a little secret! I have heard, although not tried it, that you can place a sweet or 2 in a jar of vodka, worthers, skittles jelly bellys might work well too, and place it in the dishwasher on a hot cycle and hey presto flavoured vodka!
If any one has tried it please could they let me know if this does work and is not a urban legend!0 -

I saw the tin today mum2One but it was a big size in Iceland so decided against buying it for the time being. Have you ever seen small tins?
That dishwasher idea is interesting, I've heard of people poaching fish in it but never making vodka!0 -

Glad u found the tin, my descriptions are awful, directions are worse!!!! Poundland, Home Bargains, B+M, there do the carnation ones as well as own brands, (better value).
Heard of the poaching fish, but guess the heat would help melt the sweet...xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0
