I've had a sleazeball from Crystal Windows refuse to give me a quote.

When he arrived he asked where Mrs V was. I said she was at work. He then said he couldn't leave a quote unless we were both present so I kicked him out. He still tried to make an appointment when I'd opened the front door and threatened him if he didn't leave.

The stupid thing was that if the quote was OK I would have signed there and then.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We were told that there may be problems with finance if both partners didn't sign up to the deal. That was Dolphin Finance, and after my experience with them I wouldn't buy a toothbrush off them.

As far as I can see, having you both there is an assumption that you live together and selling finance.

But as for Sky :mad::mad: who would believe this ickle woman could know what a scart lead was or give an accurate description of the problem with the sky. It took nearly a year to get sorted out and OH will now not be in the house with me when I phone Sky.

I agree that this is not a 'company that won't deal with women' so much as one which wants to minimise the back and forth and squeeze a sale out as quickly as possible.

I would also be surprised if Sky had any opinions on whether women know about scart leads etc which isn't exactly hugely technical - the only problems I have found is that normally you are speaking to a phone operator who has little to no technical knowledge and will question what you say because they aren't sure rather then because they think that women wouldn't know what they're talking about.

I have, however seen plenty of women jump to conclusions about the motivation behind comments or questions that they have been asked with no reason to believe that a man wouldn't have been treated the same. I also know plenty of women who will act all weak and feeble when it suits them, but still complain that nobody takes them seriously over similar issues in the same breath.

If a garage told me that they would speak to my husband, I'd take my car elsewhere though - I have never come across a problem, and my husband often asks me to take his car in when it needs stuff doing because I know the guy and he throws me little freebies every so often for being a loyal customer.
  • A few years back I was looking for a new job, and spoke to one of the specialist recruitment companies for my line of work. Usual chat about my qualifications, skills, experience etc. Then the next question, "...and Scooter Chick, are you married?". "Why do you need to know that?", I asked. "Well, I need to know whether you're able to relocate or not." he said.

Lets just think about that for a minute.

So.... If I'm married, clearly my husband's job is far better paid & more interesting than mine, so I have to stay put. If I'm not married, then clearly I have no life, and can therefore move to wherever in the country he chooses to send me. :(:(

    Hmmmm

My response? "Um, I'm not planning to relocate at present".

Single people tend to be able to relocate easier/quicker than married people - they don't have a spouse who may also work and cannot relocate as a result.

When I was at university I remember reading about a psychology study into why sales people prefer talking to couples. Apparantly people were more likely to give in when they were with their partner than when they were on their own. It sounds mad because you assume two people will be stronger than someone on their own, but apparantly someone on their own will be more likely to stick to their guns.
  • Maybe but that study may of proven false positive. Chances are that single people will use the "got to speak to the other half before I sign up mate" line to get out of a deal there and then.

There are different tactics employed by advertising companies to sell to different genders. A different style to sell for one gender who purchase for their partners etc.

Most ( i say most, not all) forms of advertising use fear and manipulation to sell regardless of their gender audience. The best consumers are women, the mass purchasers of low cost items are women. The end user of most of the jewellery sold are women, clothing, food, cosmetics, childrens market etc...

The technical stuff i.e high end audio, video, high end cars are aimed at men, generally. That is why you will see a new high end car marketed with a semi clad woman sprawled over it. The same with high end audio.

Now Im not talking about mass produced family stuff like BMW's, fords vauxhalls, Sony, Panasonic etc.... I mean High End.

Don't believe me? Pick up any specialist magazine in the above areas and see that ads for yourself.

The asexual companies obviously target teh average consumer.

When I ring up Ann Summers about an order she who must be obeyed has made they tell me they cannot discuss the odder as the item is an intimate item designed for ladies even though I am authorised to speak about the account, is this sexist? I feel offended.
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.
