You know that feeling you get as you watch other people appearing to manage their lives with poise and assurance, while you bumble along falling into one thing then another and you try to pretend you're grown up and you know what you're doing, that I think is normal. Poise and assurance are words that merely exist in the dictionary.

I wish I could fit that into my signature. :) It sounds like something from Dr Seuss: would make a great motto. :D

Some of us are just parked up in a layby waiting to rejoin life! (Having said that, this layby is very clean)

That reminds me of the episode of Dr Who where they're on the motorway... which will only make sense if you saw it, but I thought it was a neat idea - a massive motorway queue used by Government as a displacement technique, if I remember (vaguely) rightly.

Well done on a very clean layby though. :)

    Excellent Erme.

It's not necessarily a good thing, as she expects me to partake and I do wiping surfaces and lobbing bleach rather than cleaning (I made a brief exception for Mike's tiles)
Plus she removed my washing up bowl and tried to remove my chopping board because they were 'unhygienic' - an unhygienic piece of polished basalt!
Plus she wants exclusive viewing rights at 7pm for Emmerdale/Coronation St/Eastenders/Coronation St.
Plus when I had a sit in at 7pm for the ONE show (there are other shows available at 7) she brought the analogue TV up from the garage and instantly wanted to connect it. Something I don't think we can do(????)
Plus she wants me to buy her a mirror.
Plus she wants me to turn the radio down in the morning.
Plus she wants to go walking with me rather than just be advised of where there are good walks.
Plus she wants to comment on how I live my life.
Plus she doesn't want me to get a boyfriend because she is a strict moslem.

And .....for you pet lovers out there she can't understand why we Brits have pets when there are people starving in the third world. I said something along the line of how difficult it was to buy a third world person (although I note the tories are planning to continue to help with tying domestic visa's to the employer - maybe I should ask David Cameron for advice).

So, no, not great....and as she moved here from Durham (20 miles away) by taxi I feel guilty about wanting to boot her out.

But seriously, if you'd been living here 3 years and had a serious soap addiction don't you think you would buy yourself a TV. I'm afraid I don't really do needy people especially ones aged 37 doing PhDs who want peace and quiet apart from when they are making very loud telephone calls.

Still it's a good incentive to spend some quality time down the library with my dissertation and get a job far far away (just come home to collect the rent cheque).

    B x

(1 week down, only about another 24 to go! - or do you think I should give her notice now?)
(Come back Rodger all is forgiven)
(All credit to Niccatw, it's taken me a week to reach the same point of lodger rage she reached in 4 years!)

*Tempted to put you two in touch but you are capable of doing that yourself * :D;)

Butti, you should make careful notes and base a sitcom on it - could make you a fortune.

If you bring Erme on board you will need the cleaning lodger to sort out the effects of a Kenwood chef running 24/7 - and you will have a constant supply of fabulous baking from what I've heard. :D
