What a pile of crap. Whoever told you that, get your DMs on, go round their house and kick their head in. I'm looking at reception and admin roles and my typing is not very quick at all. I'm sure even in these grim times someone will bite your hand off (which may not be helpful!)

    The girl's right, Miggy.

Remember that most jobs are NOT advertised. Find somewhere you'd like to work and let them know you're available. Lots of companies use freelancers now to keep their headcounts down.

The problem isn't to do with you... it's just not enough people know you're nearby and available. You probably know more than most of their 'bright young things' who couldn't think their way out of a paper bag. (Yes, they could make a Powerpoint presentation with flashy slide transitions, but that's about it...)

Try looking at the situation from a different angle; imagine you're running a business or self employed and there's stuff you don't want to - or can't - do? You'd look like a very useful addition to the team, and no pension plans or holidays to pay for either!

You're on the edge of success... keep going a little longer!

PS I just downloaded a bunch of Doris Day films and made a mug of tea... that's my evening sorted.

    Hello all.

That damned dog is still nipping at my ankles - I just can't kick him off - I think this is going to be a long term one :(

I'm at work right now, exercising as much "skive" as I can as I'm struggling to cope with the calls flying my way (even though oc. health decided today that I'm 100% fit for work) I'm barely coping.

Oh well. Get those plastic flowers in Mike! :rotfl:

H'm, not me... I'm the former WP operator, but for what it's worth, about the same age. ;)

A few years ago I applied for aforementioned job with no relevant qualifications (it asked for a typing qualification), the application was late too as the computer died on me. I rang them up and said I really really wanted the job and my application was held up because of the computer and would they still consider me? They said yes. I'd checked what the qualification entailed and realised my skills were over and above what they wanted and I knew the employer was hot on equal opps which meant they would regard proff (was going to edit that out but having just confessed to being confident with proof reading... !) of ability more favourably.

Long story short: did typing test (more proof reading really, but can do that), got job. Ironnically I left a couple of years later as changes meant it was now mostly data input which I just can't do. But ignore that bit - ;) - the point is don't let being in your forties and 'out of practice' put you off. If they can't see beyond that maybe they are looking to employ someone they can pay less and mould to their way of doing things? It doesn't mean you haven't got a lot to offer because clearly you have. SE sounds like a very positive possiblility too.

Did you lot know I was thinking about you today? Is that what all this chat chat is about???:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

My sister reckons that we show up on the home challenge weekly at least - you did tick the box for royalty payments didn't you Mike :D

Down to 14 working days left to go and trying to work out why I am still rushed off my feet each day. The three people that are going to be left keep telling me they will not be able to cope once I am gone. So not my problem!

Have just started job hunting but don't want to rush in to it as I would rather make sure I get my puppy settled in first :D

Is the cat still visiting Mike??????

Before I stop rambling can I just say a HUGE well done to our Nicca? She did a marathon walk through the streets of Glasgow on Saturday, starting at 7.30 in the evening, and seems to have managed to get home about 12 hours later having raised almost £500 for charity. Well done that girl :T:j:T:j:T:j:T:j:T:j:T:j:T:j:T:j
