Getting money back from cowboy builders

Still at uni and training myself up to be a graphic designer, but thats where I hope to be professionally in 12-18 months time - Im only 21 so got a long life ahead of me to get good (well, so I hope - no guarantees!)
I know exactly what you mean about hiding things when you're in trouble - it's like losing a sense of pride by admitting you need some guidance - we all know its rubbish but still do it, guess its human nature! Same with accepting offers for help, I just dont like doing it without knowing what Im giving in return!
Your house is stunning though, I'd love my student flat to be decorated to that standard!
As for the quiz - I've been ill n stuck in bed all morning, n no sign of any will to move yet, so I might start brushing up(already had a skim-read lol!)
Remove all furniture and personal possessions and paint it white. Job done. As long as you haven't any clothes, files, boxes, shoes, etc! Once I moved my stuff back in the bloom fell off the lily a bit!
Good luck with the course. I'm sure you'll do fine. And with the tummy bug...

I was thinking more a vivid red - sadly my flatmates are opposed to the idea!0

Hi Mike
Finally got to watch sky+ and see the big build unfold in all its glory. What an amazing job they did. So glad that you posted on here and got this superb result at the end. The change in you was so visible. Great sons you have there, a credit to their father.
Hope you are still enjoying your new life and new home. Onwards and upwards for 2011.
Best wishes
Vanda
Thanks Vanda
They did a bit of a job on the place, yes...
And they're lovely lads.

Mike,
I just watched this on the BBC iPlayer, and had tears streaming down my face.
Like Vanda just said, your boys are a credit to you. It's amazing to see so many people come together and change a families life.
The thing that annoys me the most is that I have not used this forum enough, and didn't know about your needs. I would of loved to have come and helped out, and shown my support.
I hope 2011 brings you and your family much joy and happiness
All the best

hi Mike, our family watched this last week and I had no idea it had anything to do with mse'ers till I saw the image of the forum in the show, would just like to say me and my family wish you and yours all the happiness in the world, it was a great job that was done but the fact it all started from here restores my faith in human kindness, really hoping it propells your life onto bigger and better things.

Hi Mike
Having just seen the link to Iplayer about your story I had to watch, and I did with tears streaming. Your story is such a sad one but one Im so pleased has a happy ending. Im so pleased you have the support and kindness from people, I understand how debilitating depression is and how it leaves you feeling. I just wanted to say I hope that you and your boys are doing well, that you had a great xmas and new year and that 2011 is a great year for you all.

Still a few jobs to do for a competent handyman!
Thank you for your message, and best wishes to you and yours too.

MSE is a very big place, so it's just chance if you stumble on any particular thread.
There are many good people around who will do anything for other people. I will be paying it forwards for a long time.
Best wishes to you and your family.

You're right... the past few years would have been a bit of a 'mare even without the 'black dog' and all that stemmed from that. Somehow we get through it though. The answer is a mix of pills and people. Mainly people...
I'm just desperate to come off benefits and take my place back in the world of work and disposable incomes! It's frustratingly slow though and I know jumping in the deep end will not be the best way.
