18185

Has 18185 (recomended by Moneysavingexpert) now no more, I had a invoice query and all attempts to contact them were in vain, we made a mobile call through 18185 from USA to UK and didn't get the 5p per min rate instead were charged at the O2 rate of £1 per minute, There is no contact number or email address for 18185 that works, I think they have gone, no more, finished, kapoot. Anyone else had the same problem....

Let me get this right - you made a mobile call from the USA to a 18185 access number - if that was one of the two standard UK access numers (the 0808 one or the geographic 020 number you use for mobiles) then obviously you'll get a mobile operator roaming charge to get to the UK. Am I missing something here?

The OP has completely misunderstood what 18185 says!

When it says International calls it means calling from your home UK Land line phone to number in the USA. Not using a UK mobile whilst in the USA.

So I'm not alone in my reading of what was said then. It just made no sense at all so I thought I must have read it incorrectly.

Sorry your all wrong. Our company for over a year now has told any of our employee's going abroad to ring from their mobile's to either a landline or a mobile in the UK to use 18185 for this call (see their web site) the call they make will only cost pence not £'s we have used it successfully for as I say for over a year, every month someone here uses it. We didnot get an invoice for May but did get a big invoice from O2 ( our mobile phone provider) which make me think that 18185 has gone bust, also there is NO way they can be contacted, emails bounce back and no telephone number.
    Has anyone else had problems....

I've just looked at my 18185 account and can see that I made a call on the 26th June (ie 2 days ago) so I reckon they are still going.

Can you post a link that shows the info about using a mobile oversees please?

Please tell us the sequence of dialling that you used to call the UK from USA.

Please tell us where on their website it says to use them for calling the UK from the USA, all references I have fund ONLY refer to calls FROM the UK.

If you are dialing the UK from USA using (0044) 0808 1 703 703 (freephone) then the US carrier will not necessarily recognise it as freephone and will class it as a standard UK call, hence your O2 bill.

I would sugest you are under a misaprehension as to how it works.

I can't post a link that shows the info about using a mobile overseas all I know that it works (or did work ) for us, our guys have rung useing their mobiles from France, Cyprus and Florida USA, but from Antigua it doesn't work. It would be interesting to see if your call in June is at the 18185 rate or your mobile provider's rate

Errr my call was from a UK landline to a UK landline.

If you can't post a link, how do you expect us to help?

Who made the call, you or one of your guys?

If you were calling from a mobile you would call via a geographical number +4420******** and it would still be via Roaming as you would be connecting to a UK number from the USA. If you take your phone to the USA, you are ROAMING. How can Finarea have responsibility for your mobile telephone Roaming charges??

Finarea are alive and kicking and you don't appear to be utilising the brains supplied to you. That last part is supposed to be invisible. :D
