Regular Payments off a Credit Card Discussion

  • These things definitely are a nightmare. I work in a bank and people come in with these on a regular basis thinking they are direct debits when they are not. And they cannot cease them. half the time it is so difficult to contact these companies - or they fob off customers telling them to go to their bank.
  • The saga continues. Opus has washed its hands of this and tells me its in the small print of my Citi card! But the payment was taken out of my Opus account that i had no knowlegde of.
Dispite opus taking upto 8 weeks to return a reply they still don't want to know anything. Thier account department is contacting me by phone at 9pm at night and 8am demanding that i speak to them.
I tell them that i will not discuss this over the phone as everything must be in writing. The account department don't know about the letters wirtten to them or to the complaints department.Awaiting another reply which should be with me by the end of June.in the mean time Opus add default fees and intrest to the account i will be sending this the banking regulator
  • hello
yet another person here to be bitten by this method of payment. in brief a credit card protection cover cancelled at the same time as the credit card it was for then after 9 months the card reactivated as company wanted credit card protection payment. letters to prove card protection cancelled and card cancelled with no outstanding debts. credit card company say they cant cancell the debt only the merchant requesting it AND NOW THE FRIGHTENING BIT THEY AGREE THAT ACTUALLY THE MERCHANT COULD DO THE SAME NEXT YEAR AS WHEN ASKED FOR PROOF THE MERCHANT HAD FINALLY ENDED THE DEBIT I WAS TOLD THAT THAT CANT BE DONE IT JUST REQUIRES THE MERCHANT TO NOT REQUEST THE MONEY.

This has got to be the credit card companys not telling the truth and what is needed now is a legal and binding way to inform both the credit card supplier or bank and the merchant that the debit is cancelled som if the transaction is requested again it is the merchant and card company who are at fault.
This problem should be made so public that something is done about it to stop what appears to be an unstopable debit that the banks will pay regardless of what you say at any point in the future.

Dont know if this is the right place to ask, but anyways.

I have just started paying my DMP, although the first payment hasnt been sent by CCCS yet. Amongst my creditors are 4 PDL companies, I was directed to this page because I wanted to see for myself that people could still take money from my account, despite me having reported my card lost 2 months ago, the replacement card actually did get lost. My ex housemate stole it, and managed to buy a one way coach ticket for £8.50. Luckily I was online at the time checking my bank balance, so I again reported my card lost.

So what I would like would be some honest advice as to whether I should change my bank. It is a basic account at the Nationwide and I dont owe them any money. The payday loans were due at the end of October and none of them have taken any money.

Somebody has posted on this thread that if you report your card lost then the CPA dosnt work Is this really the case, the fact that my card was then stolen and the bank have proof of a fraud maybe help too.

I do appreciate the great advice dished out on these forums, and dont want to end up with egg on my face. But neither do I really want to change my bank as I have had the account for over 10 years and as no one has took any money from my account is it really necassary?

    Geordie.
