Not sure what you mean, thought it was mainly the Bankers?

With HMRC pay freeze is added on the end of the existing pay deals (so for 2011/12 and 2012/13.) Ironically, for the bottom two grades (the majority of staff) the fixed £250 payrise for all those under 21k, in the so-called pay freeze, is larger than the agreed pay rise for last year, except for those that were still due increments last year (who didn't get them but a slightly larger rise instead.)

Cannot say for other agencies, but not last year (as mentioned above) or in the pay freeze years for HMRC (presume others are same.)
because in public sector, you get promoted on length of service rather than ability.
Not true in my experience, but I have seen plenty of useless people getting promoted into the sort of grades where their remuneration is way higher than their actual abilities should warrant, especially when compared to private industry.

Not sure if that has made you feel any better. :o

However, as an outsider now on the inside, I would definitely recommend small Government. :D

The, majority, bottom grades are comparatively cheap (especially as their small pension means no pension credit.) It's the, often, poor quality higher grades that get the huge pay and pensions, relative to their abilities and they can still "swing the lead" like the best of them!

They say they want public opinion on where the cuts should be. Bet they won't get rid of all the Equality/Diversity etc etc officers that add no value for the taxpayer.

I just got 10%. Back to the gravy train.

Thanks for the bailout. I didnt think that banks should have been bailed out but hey I'm doing alright from it now.

    :-p

I had a pay rise of 5% in April.
I've been offered 12% for a promotion but holding out for 17% before I accept.

Not rubbing peoples noses in it, but there seems to be a wide spectrum of pay rises going about.

It used to be a case of jobs for life and loyalty between the employee and the employer.

    Now there's none of that.

Companies will look after themselves and offer as little as they can get away with.
Conversely individuals need to realise their owrth and if need be and possible, offer their services elsewhere.

It's a sad reflection certainly in my industry that the best way to get market rate salary is to move.

I hate the public sector, i really do.

still, i suppose a small pay rise is better than no pay rise.

I don't see how it could be any more personal.
I stand for making sure the public get the best value for money they can for their rates and the support from central government.
I stand for making sure all the contractors and private companies tendering for contracts with the council are treated scrupulously fairly.
I stand for making sure the public coming into council offices are treated with respect and given the best help or information we can give.

I can see how that entitles you to call me scum. Call me it to my face an you will be getting offered a chance to back it up. I am welcome in every boxing club and dojo in the west of Scotland, your choice of venue and referees.
I am posting on my own private mobile in my lunch break (only 2 hours late and very short).

So to prove what a reasonable and level headed type chap you are, you've offered a fellow "nutter off the internet" a fight?
Yes, you seem much more sensible than the original loon.

there seems to be a wide spectrum of pay rises going about.

    There does indeed.

No pay freezes here. I've had full raises and made full bonus every year since 2005, and again this year.

Mrs McT just got 25% with a promotion. Her pay rise alone is bigger than our mortgage.

Like it or not, far more people than many on here seem to expect are doing very well indeed from this "recession". I accept that some people aren't, and it's tragic for some of them, but it's far from universal.
