i have called many public sector workers scum to their face. don't take offence, its not personal. I am not calling you as a person scum, just your job and everything you stand for.n no offence.

I don't see how it could be any more personal.
I stand for making sure the public get the best value for money they can for their rates and the support from central government.
I stand for making sure all the contractors and private companies tendering for contracts with the council are treated scrupulously fairly.
I stand for making sure the public coming into council offices are treated with respect and given the best help or information we can give.

I can see how that entitles you to call me scum. Call me it to my face an you will be getting offered a chance to back it up. I am welcome in every boxing club and dojo in the west of Scotland, your choice of venue and referees.
I am posting on my own private mobile in my lunch break (only 2 hours late and very short).

i could cry when i see the amount of tax that I pay every month - that is one of the biggest injustices in the world. and for what? so my bins are collected fortnightly? No, because I pay extra tax for that lark - no, its mainly for public sector scum and their huge pensions.

A proper pay freeze for the public sector, ie no one, no matter what promotion or deal previously agreed, should be implemented. This should last for a decade.

Maybe after 10 years they will be on a reasonable salary. although, it will still be too high.

Point to the doll and show me where the public sector touched you.

Correct, the freeze is a freeze and in fact most like mine only give an increment on performance and no longer on duration of service.

No, annual spine point/increments will be paid

They don't all have agreed pay deals to "take them past it"
my DH works in a central gov dept and while their HR tried to get this years pay deal agreed before the election, the unions dragged their feet as they thought they'd get a better offer under the new regime... now they all face the same freeze as everyone else.

as PN said, what was your small pay rise (percentage wise)?

I agree that some aspects of the public sector are ridiculous (the people waiting for retirement who clog up the pay grades and jobs while doing the bare minimum, frustrating ambitious people who really want to work hard and make a difference but can't get on with their career; the stupid "cost saving" IT system implemented by DH's department that means it takes everyone 20 minutes to log in to their PCs in the morning and doesn't allow printing of any material off the web) But it is more often "the system" than the people who are ridiculous (despite my first example...). I don't think the Tories will fix anything in the civil service despite their promises. Any cost savings will be mostly offset by the fact that prior to the recruitment freeze they filled and created plenty of posts in every department with their cronies/ tory sympathisers; most paid top whack as they had to be enticed from private sector jobs. (I'm sure every government does this though; but it just makes a lot of what they say ring hollow...)

The_White_Horse. If you don't like your job, or you don't like your pay, or you don't like your benefits, and if you can't or are unwilling to do anything to change them then stop complaining. When I had jobs that I didn't like I quit and got one that I did. When I realised that my qualifications weren't getting me anywhere I went to university and got better ones. If I want more pay, I'll ask, and if I don't get then I'll find a new job with more pay.

I apologise for this interruption to your victimhood.

Surely that chip must be too heavy to carry by now.

If you don't like paying for a public sector find a country that doesn't have one - I understand Somalia is pleasant this time of year.
