Toilet Roll Argument

Anyone who just walked through Tesco's and saw a couple and a young child arguing in the toliet roll aisle...that was us.
Come on, tell me I'm in the right here - the Luxury stuff works out at 12p per 100 sheets whilst the Tesco's Value "own label" stuff works out at 4p per 100 sheets. Tried to point out the economy and common sense of it but my wife and daughter were having none of it so I've bought some for myself to prove to them that it's not such a hardship
Is there really any justification in paying THREE TIMES MORE for something that...well, we all know what it does...
The luxury stuff doesn't even feel that different! Honestly, are all you women sucked in by slick advertising / brainwashing and a bit of fancy packaging?

Okay - fair point.... but are the 'squares' of the roll the same length? Will you need 'more' to do the job?
Anyway - I buy recycled......"A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. Do not be pursuaded into buying what you do not need or cannot afford." Quaker Faith & Practice 1.02.410 -
have you thought off recycling your newspaper ,cutting them up in little squares and ,well you know the rest .Probably the best use off the Sun newspaper I can think off.0

LOL.
The luxury stuff tends to be a bit softer and less likely to rip IMHO
That said, I'm with you on the fact the value stuff is best value (pardon the pun).
What we do in this house is use value for the main bathroom the kids use and luxury in our en-suite. Thats cos the kids seem to use half a roll per visit!!!! And before any one says it, they were using half a roll even before we switched to value.0 -
Oooh I was a loo roll snob just like your wife :j In fact I have posted on these very boards the reasons that luxury bog roll is better than value bog roll and I believed it too, for years in fact.
I was buying the double velvet kinds of rolls and was going through 4 in a week, constantly running out, constantly having to nip out and buy more, constantly getting annoyed that my family were using too much and flushing our money down the loo (especially as hubby uses half a roll each morning blowing his nose!)
On a whim one day I bought Asda Smartprice loo roll and found that the 12 rolls for a quid lasted blummin ages, my botty didn't complain and no one else in the family complained either.
Since then I buy a pack about every three weeks for £1.14. That's pretty good in my opinion and I won't be going back to luxury loo rolls.
(The same applies for Bounty kitchen roll and Asda SP kitchen roll... totally converted)
Yours sincerely,
JJ

I did a test, 1 month I used Tesco's nicer stuff, the next I used tescos value. Although your wife is right that the nicer stuff does last longer, I spent more altogether on the nicer than the Value stuff, as even with running out sooner, the cost of the nicer stuff is that much higher that the Value actually is value.
Before anybody else points it out, yes, I did have a lot of time on my hands and i was extremely bored to experiment with loo roll. Further details of my spending experiments will be revealed upon request.Debt £5600 all 0%0 -

I always buy the cheapest economy loo roll I can buy. I think a lot of people who are very economy minded make an exception with loo roll but I cant see why. I really dont notice the difference and would rather have the money. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0
