not on electoral roll
This is why.
You do realise it's illegal to withhold your name from the annual electoral role update requests that come through your letter box?
That's why creditors don't like people who aren't on the ER. Not only can they not verify your residence but they also don't want customers who break the law.

Notice though not one person in the history of the UK has ever been charged with such offence? It is one of those silly bye-laws that will never stand up in court. I never used to be on electrole roll either because I was running from the ex. I suppose it is depends on what you want to be hidden for, I am sure in cases of domestic violence or the like that it would be acceptable?
Plus, its easy to do a bunk on your debts by moving and avoiding repayments then forget to fill in the electrole roll forms and hey presto you're home and dry (is that bad)0 -

Oh you're absolutely right prosecution is unheard of for this but due to the fact it's illegal it is a massive sign of instability and high risk to creditors.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

hehe it proves just how crap their judgement is then cos i'm very stable and certainly not high risk, but nevertheless if that's what they think then so be it. As I say, I done a runner from my ex and it was that reason that I decided not to go on it and for the reasons stated, I do not feel that it should be a straight decline without the facts.
I bet jon venables has a card/bank account and he's not exactly what i'd call stable or low risk (in any capacity) :whistle:0 -
Just had a thought -
Coventry can't be that strict if they gave you an account without your being on the electoral role!
You do realise that it's impossible for your ex to find you simply from being on the electoral role? After all, you wouldn't opt in to being on the edited register.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Sorry, I should have explained. I went on the electrole roll 2 years ago long before coventry and HSBC. I used to bank with halifax when I was not on it. I was on it at my previous address then moved and never went on it, but I did pay in £30k plus had plenty of proof. I think I opened it pretty much straight away so I wouldn't have been registered even if I asked to be, cos it takes ages to get put on doesn't it?
I was worried that my ex would trace me, I dunno. Thanks for the advice, wish i'd spoke to you 2 years ago :rotfl:0 -

Just make sure you tick the box to opt out of the edited register and you aren't listed on any publicly available recordsCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

It is possible to register anonymously, whether this allows the CRAs to confirm your presence is something I would be interested in though.

I think the "edited" register is still free to peruse at the councils, it's just companies won't get those details when they purchase any lists from them. So the edited register may not be as safe as you think...:eek:Enjoy the silence...0
