Aside from actually brushing your pets teeth raw bones is what you need for clean teeth
my cat gets a chicken wing every so often and she loves it.
Hi
Do you get frozen ones and thaw them or do you buy fresh?Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
I've tried loads of the expensive brands but had no luck. Just got to accept that mine are felix cats and always will be!
will eat whiskas in jelly, felix marinades, purina natural balance and gourmet.
none of which are that good so i make sure they get a decent dry food - james wellbeloved.
though one of mine seems to have permenant dandruff so i am thinking it might be something they are eating???0 -
Royal Canin pouches are same as Whiskas (same company same ingredients) - look at the ingredients. If you try Almo Nature try the Cuisine pouchs Tuna and Lobster, on the 70g cans try Chicken dumbstick, Tuna & Chicken, and Chicken & Pumpkin. Or if your cat still resists then the Applaws pouches Chicken and Ostrich! wow no cat will say no.
Also I agree no proof exists saying dry food cleans the teeth. I found frozen defrosted chicken wing seems to work a treat and I think this would be more of a natural tooth brush than kibble that crunches and goes.Help me to help you :santa2:0 -

Sorry it took so long to reply
I buy them fresh. There are arguments for and against freezing bones then defrosting them but I give them as they come and I've had no problems
As long as you don't give cooked bones you're ok.Wife and mother :jGrocery budget

My cats LOVE ham!
But their stomachs don't. I've been living in Poo for the last week as dog had an upset tummy due to his meds, then daughter came down with a stomach bug.
I've been waking up in the morning smelling a very rich aroma.......:o
At least daughter knows to use the toilet and not the living room carpet. *shudder*
Cats stomachs seem to like Whiskers pouches, the grilled children so I'm sticking to that the the mo!But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0 -
My cat prefers "wet food" pouches but only has them occasionally as a treat. If you're feeding your cat "wet" foods all the time then you're more likely to end up at the vet with teeth problems later in life. Naturally, they would tear up raw meat with their teeth, not these jelly-like cooked meats.
The dry foods are much better for their teeth and more nourishing. We feed our cat the lean version of the Pets at Home own brand. When we compared this to other dry foods (ingredients etc), it was better than many of the more expensive brands. As she's also a house cat (through her own choice), we wanted her on the leaner version of dry food and this one has been fantastic. She prefers it to the far more expensive food she was on, she's lost weight and maintained her new figure, is more playful/energetic and has now started to venture outside a tiny bit (no further than halfway up the garden, there are a few big tomcats in our neighbourhood that are fighters which is why she normally stays in).
I noticed a few people on here are saying there's no proof re: teeth and dry food but I'm happier to go with vets advice and something that to me is fairly obvious than chance my cats health.0 -

It's probably the salt in the ham that is causing the runny poosWife and mother :jGrocery budget

mine are the same - will not eat hilife, encore, feline fayre etc
will eat whiskas in jelly, felix marinades, purina natural balance and gourmet.

Yes that would be correct - if you hand feed them dry they will get used to it & don't offer them anything else:eek:. I took mine off Felix & other types of food & put on Burns 100% & Mia's dandruff disappeared:T. Unfortunately the Tom can't have 100% dried so am feeding 50% wet now - but the better stuff.0 -
