Anyone know if it's possible to force Aqua to stop sending paper statements? They always send them and I don't want them - I've sent them several messages that have been ignored....

Also anyone know what address you write to if you want to write to them?

I'm doing a spring (or rather winter) clean of my finances. My BOS credit card was closed today, Sygma silver has been fully paid off today and will be closed after next months interest and my RBS student credit card will be going too.

My debt levels exceeded £3000, although not as high as some peoples debt, I didn't feel comfortable with it especially with the increased chances of running into difficulties. After paying off 5 cards, I owe just under a grand now.

I've found a great way to avoid getting into difficulties.

When I set up my accounts (Vanquis and Cap 1) I've set up the DD for the full amount.

You sure don't spend on it when you know it's all coming out of your bank the next month!

Me too, it stops me spending - but then I think if I don't spend on it they will never give me rises - what does everyone think?

Oh I do spend, but an amount that I know I will comfortably be able to pay back the following month, so can be £30, could be £100, never any more than that though!

How do you accommodate for unexpected expenses? Vet bills, car repairs, a bill higher than expected etc and must be put on to the credit card and paydays money won't cover the whole direct debit amount?

Most of my debt was paying hundreds in vet bills for my dog which I otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford had I waited until payday.

I can only speak for me - I pay all my bills by direct debit, have a newish car and no pets. When I did I had pet insurance which covered the bills part although they rarely needed it so I was lucky in that regard.

This is due to being in the credit wilderness for a number of years as a result of not being able to organise my finances properly, and without the safety net I had to learn the hard way I suppose.

Also my kids are grown up so those day to day bills have gone away now and I earn more than I did so I know this time I will be financially responsible. I do remember what it was like not to have enough money to pay the bills and kids to feed so its not like I'm speaking from a pedastal or anything.

Slight change of subject - something I'm not sure about.

I have an HSBC Current Account which was provided to me with a 1,000 OD limit.

I stupidly (when a little drunk on my birthday) applied via Online banking to increase it. No need to, was just testing the waters.

They declined the request (fair enough) but left a footprint on my credit file. I've complaint about this and they aren't upholding my request.

Whilst I agreed for them to check my credit file, I was of the understanding that this would be an Unrecorded Enquiry, Follow-Up Enquiry, or Administration Review type search which isn't visible to other lenders.

HSBC however left a full footprint on my credit file.

I feel this is unfair, as I've not applied for a new account or line of credit, simply requested an amendment of an existing facility.

All the other banks / credit card companies / etc I've been with in the past either use internal scoring to make such decisions or make way of a Follow-Up (Equifax), Unrecorded Enquiry (Experian), or Administration Review (Call Credit) type search which aren't visible to other lenders.
