    I rang them up today and asked if I could upgrade to Gold and was told politely to "get knotted". I asked about appealing the decision or speaking to a manager and was told (and this is ad-verbatim);

"Look, it's credit scored, we don't care if you don't want an overdraft or chequebook, it's still credit scored and you don't qualify, and there's no point speaking to anyone else as it won't change."

I suggested that maybe they'd be better off without me as a customer as I'm obviously not "prime meat" so's to speak.

    "Well, thats your perogative Sir...."

I really feel like calling their bluff and going elsewhere. Gonna have a beer an think about it....

    Cretins.

Try it, or go into the branch booka an appointment and get a PB to phone lending up. Take your credit file and see what they say.

If they still say no. Then tell them to stick it.

What about a CGC? Will that be 6 months too? I wouldn't use the damn thing, but i really want one before you can't use them anymore lol :o

So it's 6 months from the date you've opened for a CC or loan with them?

Its 6 months from account opening mate - otherwise all they do is preselect the same that was offered when you opened the account. You must wait 6 months before applying for anything!

Does your account come with an overdraft? Try this, tell me what you see:

Go into online banking and click into your bank account, then from the options on the left click amend overdraft - if it comes up with a message saying "You are not eligible for an overdraft, please contact 0845 XXXXX" then you've no chance, if you get page 1 of 3 and an overdraft application screen, you may get accepted for that.

A CGC is harder than an o/d to get! Put it that way! My opening score was 51 which got me an o/d and card, but under 50 (you'd have got 40-49 I think) only gets you an account. You need 60+ for a credit card and you achieve this by running your account well for at least 6 months... ;)

I opened a HSBC Advance account 09/04/2010, during the application the PB said I was eligble for a CC with a £500 limit...to cut a long story short the current account application was referred as they needed to check my ID, they called me a few hours later to say the Bank account was opened fine but they could not offer me a credit card at this time (had to build up history with them) I checked my credit files and the Bank Account was searched on Equifax & Experian but the CC application was only recorded on Experian.
How long should I wait to re-apply for the Credit card is it 6 months & 1 day (Oct 10th, 2010) or 9 months?

    Thanks

Are you allowed to use your HSBC bank accounts and credit card? Or are they frozen?

This is something that confuses me... why are we always told to take in a copy of our credit files? Surely they used this to come to the decision in the first place? Or is it just more proof that they make it all up as they go along!?!?
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Nooo - just no credit limit increases lol - thats all mate! I still have 2 bank accounts, credit card, 2 overdrafts with them and 2 cgc's and all is fine! :money:

I told you, I do like HSBC even though they have sent the DCA's onto me for the incorrect linked debt - i'll have that sorted in no time, already sorted the DCA with one phone call - hsbc will get an injunction if they try it again! :rotfl:
